Sonic Youth - „Onrust“ Special with live clips from Paradiso,Amsterdam, Netherlands & interviews - 26.03.1989 (ProShot DVD)

Thanks to BobFather for sharing thisvideo on Dime.

SONIC YOUTH - „Onrust“ Special with live clips from Amsterdam (Netherlands), 26 Mar 89, Paradiso & interviews + Dutch TV + off 1st gen VHS tape + PAL DVD

Source: Dutch TV > unknown vcr > 1st gen VHS tape (TDK EHG E 180)
Lineage: Panasonic NV-FJ 610 VCR > PIONEER STANDALONE DVD REKORDER (fine mode)> DVD (optimized mode)

Sonic Youth.com says: Clips of Breeze, Kiss, Riot, and Rocket (mostly from soundcheck) were aired on On Rust television, with interviews between songs.

I say: Great special from 1989. The VHS tape had some tracking problems, but I spent some time to fix it as good as I can. I used TDK EHG tapes back in those days and I`m so glad I did `cause they`re still in good shape. This transfer has only one minor audio drop out (if you hear more you can keep them :)). Picture is good (see screenshot).

I have taken a break from the cassette tapes to focus on my VHS tapes. Most (if not all) of these tapes have been recorded on various hifi stereo video recorders, some in single play, some in long play mode. I've used my most recent video recorder (Sony SLV-SE600) for playback and a stand-alone DVD-recorder (Sony RDR-HX780) to create DVDs. They have no menus and no chapters. If anyone feels compelled to re-author any of them - be my guest.

THE B-52s @ The Downtown Cafe/Club, Atlanta, GA September 2nd 1978

A great 1978 vintage B-52's performance recorded on a Sony B&W 1/2" reel-to-reel deck.
I've only seen this vid on crapTube before and I guess it's pretty rare stuff. I know some
hoarders have been selling this on ebay for the last 5 years or so. That's no good.
Do not expect DVD quality. Start menu and correct chapter marks at each song.

BIbER master-series #025

Master - Audience recording from an old TDK SA C90

Equipment:
Recorder: Sony WM D3
Micro: AIWA CM 30

Here we have another one in a row of many upcoming masters from a friend of mine who taped hundreds of
concerts in the Stuttgart-area, the Schwabenländle, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, Europe and maybe
the whole Universe at all. They might show up here one after another. Don't ever ask me what might come next,
but be surprised by all the music that now will see the light of DIME.

Anyway here is the master as it is on the original cassette. No corrections were made.
The sound-quality is -for its age- very good +, maybe better. Very good listenable. Well done, BIbER!

A concert from some gothic-heroes from far back in the gothic-high-times.

Cover and Label Artwork for this show is included.

Setlist: (help us out with it!!)

Line-Up: (again, we need your help)

Buy their records on vinyl - if you still can

Do not sell. Just listen and enjoy!!

And -of course- a big thanks to the original-taper: thank you, BIbER!!!!!

NOTES:

The new 'Tales Of Us' isn't my favourite Goldfrapp by a long chalk. It's a
rather sedate offering after 2010's raunchy 'Head First', but ultimately I
don't mind.

I commend Alison Goldfrapp (and any other artist) for challenging her fans by
reinventing her sound yet again (some might say rediscovering her older sound)
with this album. It may yet grow on me, of course, but in general, I feel
Alison is at her best when she's concocting her own unique cocktail of disco
and glam-rock.

This naturally means that I am in for a mixed evening, listening through the
new material and hoping it will ignite something within me, whilst -- let's be
honest -- counting the minutes until the older material is pulled out of the
hat. And so it goes. In fact, much of the chosen older repertoire this evening
also consists of slower songs.

'Thea' notably makes its maiden voyage tonight in the Paradiso, but the
proceedings don't start to build up a head of steam until 'Ride A White
Horse', by which time we're almost at the end of the main set. 'Ooh La La'
takes us into the encore break in the old familiar way.

Returning for a four song encore, the band end with the double jam of 'Train'
and -- what else but? -- 'Strict Machine'. Sadly for me, no 'Rocket' is
launched this evening.

I didn't have time to get this to you before the autumn holiday, but I can
assure you that the quality of the recording has made it worth the wait. This
is about as good as an audience recording of the band can sound.

As always, samples are included in the comments to assist you in deciding
whether or not to download this.

Gang Of Four - The Longhorn, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - 10.09.1979 (Flac)

LINEAGE:
2 Shure SM57 mics>Sony TC-D5 stereo recorder>Maxell UDXLII cassette>Yamaha-KX330 tape deck>Terratec-EWX soundcard>EAC-WAV>EAC-FLAC

Taper: Minnesota Mike

This is a companion to "Buzzcocks 1979-09-10 Minneapolis" which I've also uploaded. Gang Of Four were the opening act for the Buzzcocks that night and Mike recorded them both. Also of note is that The Clash were in the audience, as they were in town to play in St Paul on the 12th. A big week in Twin Cities music history!

This is straight from the mastertape. I have not done any EQing, filtering, editing, or any kind of tampering with the sound.

I don't put sound ratings on these uploads -- I'd prefer to have somebody independent (such as yourself) judge that. So, after you've downloaded and listened, post a comment on the sound quality.

Minnesota Mike made audience recordings of shows in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area between 1978 to 1985. He used a stereo Sony TC-D5 tape recorder and two Shure studio microphones, top-of-the-line equipment in those days. He recorded shows just for himself and never made copies. I met him years later and he allowed me to trade tape copies around 1993. Later when the technology became available, I traded some on CDR. So some of the copies that are out there are second generation or more, and some are digital copies of the master. I wasn't a very active trader and, in fact, some of Mike's tapes have never circulated. The digital copies I'm uploading now were made in 2006 with azimuth adjustments on the tapedeck and a Terratec EWX soundcard to the computer. Mike's tapes are often mistaken for Soundboard or FM sources -- but they are not, they are audience recordings.

NOTES:

Yesterday, I hadn't seen Kraftwerk live in 22 years. Today, it's been only 24
hours.

Like yesterday, I have a ticket for the early show, which dictates leaving
Amsterdam with enough time to get to Eindhoven before the venue opens its
doors.

Today, that proves tricky. There's a lot of traffic en route, possibly because
it's Friday, possibly because the autumn school holiday has just begun; I
don't know.

I come to a standstill several times and observe the minutes steadily being
added to my projected arrival time. Fortunately, the road eventually clears up
further south around Den Bosch, and I even pull a couple of minutes back.

I ultimately arrive at 17:30 again, but this time without the 26 km detour
that I inadvertently took yesterday. I studied the map prior to leaving this
time and figured out where my sat-nav system had given me an unclear
instruction yesterday.

Again, there's quite a mass of bodies forming outside the Evoluon, so I
quickly add my volume to it. Like yesterday, there's no time to eat
beforehand, so dinner will have to be after the show again. Perhaps a taper is
a kind of artist and must suffer for his art.

I'm one of the first through the doors this time, but like yesterday, I need
the toilet. I know the situation inside the auditorium this time and I want a
spot right at the balustrade, so I only half set up my gear in the loo and
then waste no time getting downstairs for the ID check.

A blue wristband is fitted next to yesterday's red one and a new pair of 3D
glasses are handed to me. With that, I'm on my way outside to the second
building, this time not stopping to peruse the merchandise stand.

I flash my wristband at the man on the door of the second building, rush
inside, up the stairs, through the doors and up the second flight of stairs.

Out of breath, I arrive on the circular landing and survey the scene. There's
almost no-one else here yet and the balustrade has just a couple of people
standing at it.

Yesterday, I had to settle for the second row, as it were, standing behind the
people who had beaten me to the balustrade. Today, however, the first part of
my mission has been accomplished and I stand in an absolutely ideal location:
directly opposite the stage and with no-one in front of me, thanks to the
gigantic hole in the ground around which this landing is built.

I chat to a nice Belgian couple for the next hour. As I had parked the car
outside, I had noticed a few Belgian number-plates in the car-park and rather
a lot of German ones. Indeed, I can hear German voices on either side of me
now. Clearly, the old British stereotype of the Germans getting to the beach
before anyone else has some basis in fact.

Evoluon was hand-picked for these concerts by Ralf Hütter himself. It's not a
conference centre and not normally used for gigs.

Perhaps it's the circular arrangement inside the Evoluon that made this place
a logical choice for the band. Apparently, their 3D sound system requires the
ability to surround the audience with speakers, and that's something they have
certainly managed to achieve here.

Just after 19:00, the now familiar glass lift rises from the ground floor with
the band clearly visible inside. They take their places behind the iconic
techno-lecterns and away we go.

What follows is more or less a repeat of yesterday evening, give or take a few
nuances.

I had hoped for at least some minor variation in the set tonight, given the
nature of the shows the band performed earlier this year in Düsseldorf and
London, but it's not to be. Obviously, all four shows at Evoluon will comprise
the same set.

It doesn't matter, though. This being only my third Kraftwerk gig in 22 years,
a replay of yesterday's gig isn't going to sacrifice any of its appeal.

If I'm not much mistaken, the sound is subtly different tonight. There's a
slightly richer low end. I'm only centimetres away from the spot where I stood
yesterday, so that doesn't explain it.

I'm informed that the 3D sound is mixed and balanced live by the sound
engineer, using an iPad. That might explain why I notice some sudden shifts in
sound at both of these concerts.

There's noticeably less chatter from the audience this evening. Yesterday,
there had been a lot of people who clearly had no idea how to behave at a
public performance, people of an age that they really ought to have known
better. I suspect that they were not regular gig-goers and came more out of
curiosity than anything else.

Idly chatting to each other during the songs and taking pictures with their
point-and-shoot cameras without first silencing the sampled shutter sound,
such people are oblivious to the disturbance they create until a firm
statement jolts them out of their apathetic stupor.

Honestly, if I were in power, I'd throw the peasants from the balcony.

But I digress. There's a pleasant dearth of such annoyances in my immediate
vicinity this evening.

Two hours and ten minutes later, it's all over and I have enjoyed myself
immensely yet again. Both gigs rate for me amongst the very best of the year,
but are so different to everything else I've seen this year that any
comparison feels awkward.

Both yesterday and today, some people didn't even wait for the end of the
show, adding to my sense that quite a few people are here more out of
curiosity than out of love of the music.

It's absolutely beyond me how anyone could leave this show before the final
note has been played, but I can see them from the balustrade, collecting their
coats from the cloakroom and heading for the exit with no more regard for the
music still being performed than I would have when exiting a muzak-filled
lift.

Sometimes I think I'm related to the human race only by marriage.

The merchandise stand downstairs does brisk business again as Evoluon empties
in preparation for the second show of the evening. The posters printed for
these two evenings have already sold out.

Outside, a mass of punters queue for the next show. They're in for a real
treat.

I've had my fill, however. I wouldn't need to see the exact same show a third
time, especially if it meant driving to Eindhoven for it. I bought my first
Kraftwerk record 35 years ago at the tender age of 11 and I love this band,
but with little to no activity on stage, the live experience is as much like
watching a film as it is a band.

A massive queue of punters is standing at the entrance, waiting to be allowed
inside for the second show of the evening.

It's another cholesterol-filled snack van dinner for me, and then I drive back
to Amsterdam, arriving home before 23:00. Nice.

Again, this is a recording that I was aching to get absolutely right on the
night; and I think I managed to.

Like my recording of yesterday's show, the sound is excellent, albeit subtly
different. I can't claim to have captured the 3D nature of the sound for you,
but I can, at least, promise you a good stereo image.

If you only want to download one show, listen to the samples and base your
decision on that. This recording features less chatter from the audience
around me (virtually none, in fact), but yesterday's didn't have enough to
make that a decisive factor, either.

One thing is for certain: at least one of these two recordings should be in
your collection. This is absolutely essential listening.

As always, samples are included in the comments to ease the decision-making
process.

For the sake of completeness, I'll conclude by repeating yesterday's notes
regarding how the recording has been tracked:

'Prologue' appears as a distinct track on the 'Tour De France Soundtracks'
album, but is included as part of 'Tour De France Étape 1' on the band's
official live album, 'Minimum-Maximum'. I have elected to track it separately
here.

'Tour De France Soundtracks' features three such 'étape' tracks, which form a
seamless whole. What was performed tonight, however, was an amalgam of all
three, bridged by 'Chrono'.

I have therefore tracked the two 'étape' halves as 'Tour De France Étape 1'
and 'Tour De France Étape 2', even though they also contain parts of 'Tour De
France Étape 3'. Others have chosen to track the entire extended piece as
'Tour De France 2013', but I wanted to be more precise.

Finally, I have separately tracked 'Abzug' as per the German release of
'Trans-Europe Express' and the international reissues of that album. The
version performed here is very short, but still distinct from 'Metal On
Metal', so I have chosen to reflect that in the tracking.

Please see the notes that accompanied my recording of yesterday's early show
for more background to these concerts.

NOTES:

The distinguished Nick Cave is playing two nights in Amsterdam, a couple of
weeks apart. The second of these shows is actually the first, in a sense,
because it was only when that gig sold out within mere minutes that another,
tonight's, was added.

This second show hasn't sold out, but it must have come damn close. It's
pretty packed in here tonight.

Support comes from the excellent Shilpa Ray.

The wankers around me don't really give her a chance and talk through most of
her set, but I do my best to tune them out and enjoy her one-woman odyssey of
vocals and harmonium.

On the way out, I avail myself of a copy of her new EP, the observantly titled
and reasonably priced 'It's All Self Fellatio', released on Cave's own Bad
Seed label.

The man we've come to see takes to the stage at 21:00, equal parts enigma and
charisma. Dressed in a black suit and sporting his patented slicked-back,
dyed-black, thinning straggles of hair in a look that only a man of some
considerable repute can hope to pull off without ridicule.

For more than two hours, Cave holds the Heineken Music Hall in his spell with
a sublime performance. It's unbelievable to think that he's been doing this
for more than 30 years. 56 years young, he belts it out this evening with the
verve of a teenager who has been granted 15 minutes of stage time by a jaded
promoter.

Incidentally, I'm going to take this opportunity to express my boundless
contempt for the irritating drones who barge a path through the crowd all
evening, peddling beer from the stupid green cylinder strapped to their back,
nearly taking my eye out with their crass little Heineken flagpole and, much
more sinfully, causing spontaneous conversations to erupt during the music.

They're invariably young, probably students, and whilst I understand that
everyone needs a way to pay the rent, I'd rather see these fuckers living on
the street under a cardboard box than have them interfere with the music I
have paid good money to come and see. And for what? So that the management can
eek out a few extra beer sales.

The same diminutive girl seems to be ploughing an invisible furrow, beating a
path that takes her right past my spot all evening. Anyone in her way is
unceremoniously barged aside, me included. Conversations about beer and change
are struck up with no regard for anyone who might be more interested in the
music.

It's bad enough when there's noise from the bar at a gig, but the ongoing
subjugation of art by commerce has now reached the point that the soulless
wankers who run this place feel entitled to ensure that the bar is now
everywhere and thereby effectively unavoidable.

They casually and disrespectfully inflict its roving annoyances on the 49 out
of every 50 of us who have no interest in buying. God forbid a thimbleful of
beer should go unsold tonight, or one plastic glass fewer get noisily crushed
underfoot.

Fuck those people. Why is rock music treated with such blatant disregard? The
corporate canines wouldn't dare try that shit with opera-goers or classical
music buffs, would they?

Now, where was I?

Ah yes, Nick Cave. I'll keep it short.

There's plenty of engagement with the audience tonight. Cave frequently
approaches right to the edge of the stage, one such occasion being 'Higgs
Boson Blues'. "Can you hear my heartbeat?" he asks, as grasping hands make
eager contact with his chest.

Other highlights are the ever-dependable 'The Mercy Seat' and the grippingly
spun yarn of 'Stagger Lee', the latter belted out here with the kind of
fervour that might cause you to mistake Cave for a character in the story,
rather than its narrator. It's an absolutely absorbing performance.

The sound in the HMH tonight is impeccable and really, REALLY loud. I have to
turn the microphone inputs down so far that the audience sound as if they've
gone home for much of the gig. The gunfire during 'Stagger Lee' comes bursting
through with a crackle like someone pouring water into the PA.

There's also a deep, rich low end in evidence tonight. Just listen to the
thunder that opens 'Tupelo' or the grinding 'Hiding All Away' for an
illustration.

More than two hours of music finally come to an end with a new song, 'Give Us
A Kiss'. Slowly, we come back down to Earth.

The recording is superb. I really couldn't be happier with it and a lot of
Nick Cave fans will be beaming from ear to ear after giving it a spin. I
certainly hope so, anyway.

As always, samples are included in the comments to assist in deciding whether
or not to download it.

Nick will be back at this venue in two weeks for his original sold-out show. I
will be there, too, microphones at the ready.

Pussy Galore - Peel Session - 25.07.1990 (Flac)

Excellent band that I never posted before, what better than a Peel session to Start. Thanks to the original uploader on Dime.

In memory of the late, great John Peel here's a classic session from Pussy Galore.
A few things struck me as memorable about this session: firstly, the band played their entire
set in one block, and secondly it was the biggest, loudest (and definately the coolest)
racket I'd ever heard on the radio. Enjoy!

Siouxsie & The Banshees - Reading Festival, Little John's Farm, Reading, UK - 28.08.1993 (Flac)

Thanks to DutchPunkOTR for sharing this one on Dime.

Original Info File:

Another one of my purchased boot CD's, this time it's 'Europe 1993' manufactured by Red Line (RFCD 1284 - Red Line 1993)
The footage was taken from an audience recording at 1993's reading festival in the UK
Ripping with EAC showed me this was already in the database, with an improvised setlisting.
I decided to keep it as it was, so you can have a laugh over the names of the tracks :o)

Part of this show is also included on the 'Sister Midnight' bootleg, but as i haven't got this one,
i can't tell if it was taken from the same source, or is an alternate source

Lineage : Silver CD master > EAC (secure mode - test & copy) > FLAC8

Artwork : (front/back/CD) scanned and included in the torrent's artwork folder
MD5, M3U & NFO generated via NFO Music Builder v.1.17
