NOTES:
It's the penultimate night of Kraftwerk's eight show residency at the
Paradiso and the band's 1991 anthology of rerecorded and rearranged songs,
'The Mix', is receiving the spotlight treatment.
Or is it? A little explanation is required here.
Technically, the album is integrally performed, because all of its songs
feature in tonight's set. However, the songs are simply interwoven with the
others performed this evening, effectively expanding the 'best of' segment to
fill the entire concert.
For example, tonight's show gets under way with 'Numbers', a song that's not
even on 'The Mix'. And all but two of the album's songs ('Dentaku' and 'Pocket
Calculator') are performed live every night, anyway.
An interesting consequence of this is that the show ends up featuring all of
the 'Computer World' songs that were performed when that was the spotlight
album. So, in a sense, this effectively becomes a second 'Computer World'
show.
Tonight is notable for Hütter playing a bum note at 4'54" into
'Radioactivity', the recovery from which causes him to forget to sing the next
lyric.
The 14 minute 'Autobahn' makes a welcome return to the set tonight. It's so
superior to the 8 minute version that there's really no comparison.
The big surprise tonight, however -- if it can be called that -- is that 'Expo
2000' opens the second encore, in what will turn out to be its only
performance of the entire residency. The reworked version of 'Expo 2000',
'Planet Of Visions', has been performed other nights, but tonight the original
is played before it eventually also morphs into 'Planet Of Visions'.
Earlier in the week, I was thinking that eight of these shows ought to be
enough for anyone, but it's amazing how habit-forming the experience of
attending one of these residencies is. I'm starting to think that Saturday
night is going to be a big disappointment when there's no Kraftwerk gig to
attend at the Paradiso. This has become a lifestyle.
That said, I'm still not tempted to travel to repeat the experience in some
other European city. It's just too big a commitment.
Once again, the recording was made under the same conditions and with the same
parameters as the previous ones. The mastering is again (almost) identical, as
is the resultant listening experience.
Scans of the ticket and both sides of the glasses envelope are also included.

From BBC website:
How the squalid streets of '70s New York gave birth to music that would go on to conquer the world - punk, disco and hip hop. In the 1970s the Big Apple was rotten to the core, yet out of the grime, grit and low rent space emerged new music unlike anything that had gone before.
Inspired by the Velvet Underground, a new wave of 'punk' rock emerged in lower Manhattan including The New York Dolls, The Ramones and the Patti Smith Group. Meanwhile, downtown loft parties held by gay New Yorkers heralded the birth of disco, which would eventually spawn the ultimate club for the privileged few: Studio 54. The swanky mid-town discos were out of bounds to black New York so in the Bronx DJs such as Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaataa created their own parties, heralding the birth of hip hop.
With David Johansen, Patti Smith, John Cale, Richard Hell, Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaataa, Kool Herc, Nile Rodgers, Chuck D, Tommy Ramone, Chris Stein, Fab 5 Freddy, Lenny Kaye, Tina Weymouth, Chris Frantz, Syl Sylvain, Nicky Siano, David Mancuso, DJ AJ, David Depino, Jayne County, Lee Childers, Nelson George, Victor Bokris and Vince Aletti.

The webcast FAQ:
1. There is no audio and/or video when I play this thing. What do I do?
Change the thing you play your videos with. Use either VLC or MPC-HC, they're free and the best.
2. There is no audio and/or video or it doesn't work at all when I burn webcasts to a DVD. What do I do?
Use DVD Styler to make DVD-Video discs. It's free, easy to use and supports webcast videos.
3. How do you capture webcasts?
I use a couple of different tools, depending on how the stream works. The tools I use (which should cover all possible bases) are: ffmpeg, youtube-dl, AdobeHDS.php (+HDS Link Detector), RTMPDump (+RTMPDumpHelper), and Hola Unblocker for proxying as well as URL Snooper and HiDownload as general backup tools.d.

NOTES:
Day six of Kraftwerk's residency brings us to the show that spotlights an
album some Kraftwerk fans consider 'the one that got away'.
'Techno Pop' is something of an unloved stepchild in some quarters. The album,
originally released in 1986 under the title 'Electric Cafe', had taken five
years to produce after 'Computer World'. Delays along the way had caused even
the band themselves to question whether the album was still relevant in the
way their previous work had been.
When it finally came out, the reception was lukewarm. Wikipedia says that
"audiences generally appeared to find the music somewhat more sterile and less
engaging".
Whilst 'Electric Cafe' was indeed very different from the band's previous
albums, I actually disagree with this. It's not my favourite of the band's
albums by any means, but it does contains some fine tracks. 'The Telephone
Call' has a very catchy melody and the suite of 'Boing Boom Tschak', 'Techno
Pop' and 'Musique Non Stop' that closes every Kraftwerk show is simply
sublime.
The audience at tonight's show appear more casual. Tickets were still
available for this concert long after the others had sold out, allowing people
with a more passing interest in the band to purchase tickets right up until
the start of the residency last Friday.
The album's running order is necessarily altered tonight to allow the
aforementioned three song suite to close the show, as it always does. Even
allowing for that, however, 'Electric Cafe' is still moved to the top of the
set, whereas it comes last on the actual album.
'Vitamin' makes its residency debut this evening, with 'Airwaves' taken out to
make room for it. Other than that, there are no notable changes to the 'best
of' section of the set.
Once again, the recording was made under the same conditions and with the same
parameters as the previous ones. The mastering is again almost identical, as
is the resultant listening experience.
As always, samples are included to allow you to try before you buy. If you've
downloaded any of the others in this series so far, however, you already know
what to expect.Scans of the ticket and both sides of the glasses envelope are also included.

Depeche Mode - Something Else - 23.10.1981 (ProShot DVD)
Thanks to the original uploader on Dime.
Original Info File.
A pro-shot DVD recording of this seven track television performance which is often attributed to being from 1981-11-06 University, Liverpool, England, UK was actually recorded on this date. The confusion arises due to the fact that it was broadcast on November 6, 1981. Further backstory and information is provided thanks to the Facebook group Depeche Mode Classic Photos And Videos (https://www.facebook.com/groups/depechemodeclassicfansphotosandvideos/):
----
1981-10-23 - TV Recording, 'Something Else' . October 23rd 1981 .
Broadcast date: 6th November 1981
The video footage usually credited as live at Liverpool University on 6th November 1981, is actually footage shot for the TV show 'Something Else'. The mistake has come about because this is the date the show was broadcast.
I started investigating this after spotting Deb Danahay Mann and Jo Gahan in the audience. When I pointed it out to her, she said it wasn't her, and what's more, she wasn't at the Liverpool gig. I was confused, but hey, she should know, right?
Some time later, Deb had another look at the footage, and realised that it was in fact her in the audience, with Jo and Anne Swindell. Confused, she checked her diary, and she definitely was not in Liverpool on 6th November.
Remembering the 'Something Else' footage, I decided to look into this further. With the help of Deb's archive, these pictures came to light, detailing the schedule for the 'Something Else' show. It was recorded on 23rd October, edited on 24th October, and broadcast on 6th November. Another check in the diary revealed that Deb was indeed at the recording!
Some YouTube clips, correctly identify the performance from the TV show, but it has been missed that these are one and the same. The supposed 'Liverpool' footage is a timecoded, unedited copy, that even has two performances of 'Tora! Tora! Tora!' and 'Nodisco', further proof that this was not a gig. If you compare the footage, you'll see that it is fact the same performance. You will also see it credited as 'Something Else' on the 'Speak & Spell' remaster DVD.

Anyway, regarding the DVD, the quality is not too terrible. It's certainly watchable. The audio has a constant ringing noise throughout, but it's a fair bit clearer than the audio alone which I shared in my previous torrent. I do not know why the video resolution is so odd though.

Bang on a Can on "Music for Airports":
"When we first heard Music for Airports in the late seventies/early eighties it was like a door cracking open. This record-long piece was mesmerizing, dreamy, intense and meant to be played in or thought of as fitting into a specific environment. It was a redefinition of how we relate to music in our everyday lives. Brian Eno was exploring the question of where music could go. Could its home lie somewhere outside of the muzak of elevators and dentists' offices and outside of the concert hall as well? Could it exist somewhere in between? Eno was essentially defining Ambient music. Twenty years ago there were no Ambient departments in record stores. There were no New Age or techno sections, no chill rooms. Music for Airports kicked off a whole web of musics that hadn't existed previously. But the unique factor about Eno's work was that although it could and can exist in the background of everyday life it is music that carries a potency and integrity that goes far beyond the incidental. It's music that is carefully, beautifully, brilliantly constructed and its compositional techniques rival the most intricate of symphonies. What Eno didn't imagine was that his piece would be realized with live musicians. In his analog studio, methodically stringing out bits of tape and looping them over themselves, he hadn't anticipated that a new generation of musicians would take his music out of the studio and perform it on live instruments in a public forum. Over at Bang on a Can we have always searched for the redefinition of music, exploring the boundaries outside of what is expected. This recording represents a further step in this exploration. After 20 years where does this landmark piece fit into our ever expanding definition? The effect has only begun. The Music for Airports revolution is just beginning to unfold. The live realization of Music for Airports stays close to the source. To the core group of the Bang on a Can All-Stars we've added voices, brass, winds and pipa, filling out the orchestra of sound that emerged in our minds from Eno's original synthesized recording. We have had the great pleasure of sharing the project plans with Brian Eno along the way. We are indebted to him for giving us the experience of getting inside and out of this monumental work". - Michael Gordon, David Lang, Julia Wolfe
