Dawn After Dark - Crystal High (1st single, April 1988, FLAC)
The contributions of Egg_Crisis to DCR just started two days ago, but today they lift off to really high levels, with three gems not to be missed. First one is this rip of the first single by a lost and forgotten band from the 80's. A Huge Thank You to him.
Some info about the band taken from their MySpace:
Formed in 1986 and based in Birmingham the early Dawn After Dark were heavily influenced by bands such as Death Cult and these influences showed heavily on their first demos...
Relentless gigging and general badgering brought them to the attention of Chapter 22 Records and London based Metropolis music, who became the bands management... 1987 saw the band traverse the UK as headliners and as support act to New Model Army, Ghost Dance, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, The Swans and the Rose of Avalanche...
1988 saw the release of Crystal High on Chapter 22 Records and saw the band tour with Fields of the Nephilim on the mark of the watchman tour. This saw the band gain a following in the shape of the Warriors, later to become the Dawn Losers, basically a hardcore group of kitbag toting lunatics that followed and supported the band everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Crystal High sold out in the first week of the Nephilim Tour and 'Dawners' T shirts appeared everywhere... 1
988 saw the release of The Groove and more tours followed with Balaam and the Angel, Living Colour, Gaye Bikers on Acid, Pop Will Eat Itself, The Wonderstuff. The Groove appeared in the indie charts and the band appeared in full page spreads/interviews in Kerrang and numerous fanzines. To top it all Dawn After Dark appeared it the top 20 best new bands in Sounds music poll of 1988. ..
1989 started to see the demise of the 'alternative' scene and in a bid to survive the changes Dawn After Dark rightly or wrongly started to change their sound and a heavier influence came in...
1989 saw the release of Maximum overdrive and gigs with The Dogs D'Amour, All About Eve and touring with Wolfsbane followed. Dawn after dark headlined and filled venues such as the Marquee and Irish Centre in Birmingham
