The Joy of Disco (Documentary, 2012)

When I asked what bands you wanted to have a dedicated week of postings, somebody said Village People, unfortunately he was the only one, so the People didn't win, but I promised to post something from them, here's a bit of history then ;)

When I was a teen, I hated disco, it was the music your parents listened to, so you runned away from it as if it was the devil. But I do love BBC documentaries, and this one is as excellent as any of the others posted on the blog. It really is not important if you like the music or not, the way this documentary is made, will make join the next time travel to the 70's (and while you're there, try to catch the first Pistols gig before entering the disco).

The Joy of Disco

Documentary about how a much-derided music actually changed the world. Between 1969 and 1979 disco soundtracked gay liberation, foregrounded female desire in the age of feminism and led to the birth of modern club culture as we know it today, before taking the world by storm. With contributions from Nile Rogers, Robin Gibb, Kathy Sledge, Randy Jones, Giorgio Moroder and Ian Schrager.
