Another gem shared by Egg_Crisis.

cassette(audience,unknown gen,Sony HF90,from a record fair 1989) > wav > Soundforge(normalise uneven L&R channels) > CDWave(split on sector boundaries) > flac(6)

You can hear an edit at the start of track 7. Presumably it was split over 2 sides of a c60 at some point. There's a slight drop in quality at the start of track 7 which improves again halfway through track 9.

RE-UPLOAD: Skeletal Family - Funhouse, Keighley, UK - 21.05.1985 (Flac)

Again Thanks to Egg_Crisis for another rarity.

Cassette(Audience,unknown gen,TDK D60) > wav > Soundforge(normalise uneven L&R channels) > CDWave(split on sector boundaries) > flac(6)
Bonus track was quiet and needed dehissing with Adobe Audition-Hiss reduction-Light setting.
Tape flip after Trees, the end of the song is very slightly cut (the song was coming to an end, there's only a few seconds missing.)

She Cries Alone also cuts out at the end.  The song was coming to an end but the ending is different to earlier versions - the drums continue.. as if they're going into another song.

I only have that one song from Croydon Underground so added it as a bonus track.

Anne-Marie's final show with Skeletal Family was around 2 months after this gig, in July.  I'm told at least one show from July exists as audio, but I don't have it.

RE-UPLOAD: Skeletal Family - The Warehouse, Leeds, UK - 09.04.1986 (Flac)

Now this is a rare treat, a Skeletal Family recording with Katrina on vocals with some unreleased songs. Huge Thanks to Egg:Crisis for this one.

cassette(Audience,unknown gen,BASF LH-EI 90,from a trade in 1990-a copy of a tape from a record fair) > wav > Soundforge(normalise uneven L&R channels) > CDWave(split on sector boundaries) > flac(6)

Originally taped on a c90 with tape flip in the middle of the final song, then copied to a c60 with tape flip between tracks 8 & 9, then copied to a c90 with tape flip before the final song. :/
From track 9 onwards (side B of the c60 it was copied from) the left channel was poor so I doubled up the right channel for the remaining songs (and consequently the flacs for those last 5 tracks are smaller). During "The Wizard" the sound went quiet for a few seconds in the left channel so a 10sec part of the right channel had to be copied over to cover that part.

Taped by the same guy who taped the March Violets Warehouse'84 gig. Unfortunately unlike that one he couldn't find anyone to hold the tape recorder for him so he takes the tape recorder to the toilet during "Lost And Found". Just like cats like to mark their territory a few of this guys recordings seem to be marked in this way!

She Cries Alone has a very brief Batman ending.

The Katrina lineup of the band only released 2 singles so some of these songs may be new to some. (Tracks 4,6,7,11 are only available as Janice Long session tracks, Tracks 5,12 unreleased in any form, I think, unless I've overlooked something.)

Filmed by the same Italian girl who did the Sisters Brixton Ace vid.  She seemed to stop the tape between songs a lot (to conserve tape and/or batteries maybe) so it's lucky that the Sisters Brixton vid is as complete as it is.  These two didn't fare so well, 4 songs from the Skeletals and 6 songs from Play dead, but that's all that exists of these performances.

The last 2 Skeletal Family songs flick into b&w occasionally.  The tape hasn't deteriorated, it's been like that since I first got it.

Information:

Skeletal Family is a gothic rock band which formed in Keighley, West Yorkshire, England in December, 1982. The band formed from the remaining membership of an earlier group, called The Elements, and took their name from the title of the song "Chant of the Ever Circling Skeletal Family" from the 1974 David Bowie album, Diamond Dogs.
Skeletal Family is the only group that sprang up from Keighley, West Yorkshire in the early 1980s. The original lineup was Anne-Marie Hurst (vocals), Stan Greenwood (guitar), Roger 'Trotwood' Nowell (bass), Ian "Karl Heinz" Taylor (keyboard/sax), and Steve Crane (drums). In 1984, the band signed on to indie label Red Rhino and recorded their first single for Red Rhino, "The Night," just after losing their original drummer Steve Crane. Crane was replaced by Howard Daniels. Daniels was soon replaced by Martin Henderson (formerly of The Last Laugh). Skeletal Family's first album "Burning Oil" was released by Red Rhino in the autumn of 1984. The band began touring with the likes of The Sisters of Mercy during the Sisters' First and Last and Always tour. The group released "Futile Combat" in 1985 along with the "Promised Land" single. The group then signed with Chrysalis Records.

Fast forward to 2009…….

GHOST DANCE / SKELETAL FAMILY

Return of Influential Queen from the Vanguard of “Old Skool” Goth Rock

After playing what was to unknowingly be her last major public performance with Ghost Dance in Amsterdam, Monday December 4th 1989, and a hiatus from performing of almost 20 yeas. Lead vocalist Anne-Marie Hurst is back!!! Her first show in 20 years has just being announced on Saturday 31 October 2009 at Gasworks Bar, Great Horton Road, Bradford

Following a chance meeting last year with Stan Greenwood (Guitarist with Skeletal Family, Anne-Marie’s band prior to Ghost Dance) led to discussions regarding the possibility of the pair working together again. The idea being, to simply write and play new material, in an atmospheric, acoustic setting.

Early 2009 saw the pair participating in numerous rehearsals / song writing sessions, leading to a collection of songs the duo were eager to perform.

Fast forward to April 2009……. At a front room party session, before a hand full of old friends, the new acoustic material was premiered to surprising outstanding applause.

The problem then lay, what to play next? Despite an initial unwritten agreement between the pair that no Skeletal Family / Ghost Dance material was to be involved, suggestions lead to attempt a few of the old numbers. Despite not playing them together for 25 years, the reaction from both audience and performers alike to the ramshackle renditions was amazing.

Inspired, and cajoled by the favourable response, a rehearsal was set up with drum machine and bass sequencer. Due to a combined bout of technophobia and impatience this was quickly jettisoned in favour of human musicians.

For the Bradford Gasworks gig, founder Skeletal Family bassist Trotwood (currently on a break from working with Paul Weller) has just been drafted into intense rehearsals, which along with local guitarist Ed Kellet & drummer Rob Caswell, resulting in a five piece guitar band, playing songs from both Ghost Dance & Skeletal Family, that have not been aired for two decades, plus new original material.

With a back catalogue of three studio albums, numerous compilation cd’s and a plethora of top independent charting singles, including “Promised Land”, “The Grip Of Love” and “River Of No Return” an influential queen from the vanguard of “Old Skool” Goth Rock returns.

2013 - Reunion Show on Wave Gotik Treffen: which turned out to be an interesting trip. Apart from the plane,s trains and automobiles, to get to the gig. It was probably one of the best in the bands history.

Manchester - 2nd gen. From a trade in 1990.  The guy I got it from got it from the filmer.  The reason there's only 2 songs is because the guy who video'd it would only copy those 2 songs.  A shame because what there is of it is quite good.

Bradford - unknown gen.  It's pretty good though and not losing its colour like some versions I've seen.

Skeletal Family - Radio Sessions 1983/1985 (Flac)

Amazing work by Egg_Crisis, compiling this one for all of us. My soundtrack for the day.

cassette(FM Radio,unknown gen,Maxell UR90 from a trade*) > wav > Soundforge(normalise uneven L&R channels) > CDWave(split on sector boundaries) > flac(6)

* Except tracks 1-4 from a recent re-broadcast in excellent quality, previously posted on Dark Circle Room, thanks to nashspacerocket for sharing that one. 3 of the songs ended abruptly so rather than just fading the ends and damaging them further I extended the ends by a couple of seconds and then applied the fades to these additional parts. In addition to this the start of Black Juju was shorter compared to my lower quality recording of this session so I repeated some drumbeats to re-create the longer intro as it was originally broadcast.
I've also added the DJ announcements as separate files. Despite it being a Peel Session the announcer is Kid Jensen because he repeated the session on his show sometime after the original broadcast.
