5 Stars.

Back to my collection of bootlegs>WAV>FLAC8>You

01 - East at easter
02 - Up on the catwalk
03 - Book of brilliant things
04 - Glittering prize
05 - The american
06 - King is white and in the crowd
07 - Speed your love to me/"C" moon cry like a baby
08 - Someone somewhere (In summertime)
09 - Promised you a miracle
10 - Big sleep
11 - Waterfront
12 - New gold dream (81-82-83-84)/Take me to the river/Light my fire

This concert is from the golden era!
It appears partially on the ultra limited bootleg (150 copies) called "Presence of Mind".
Here is the comments of the vinyl from the huge "Dream Giver" site:

"Hello, how are you? This is the Sparkle In The Rain tour. This is the capital city.Open up".
Charlie's already there with a unique new melody, which is captured with clarity.
"Someday soon you'll make me happy, cause all across the land it's East At Easter" In fact,
with different melodies from Mick and new drumming from Mel, the song only keeps its lyric from it's album version.Great start.
"On drums, the best young drummer in the world, Mel Gaynor" and with that introduction, the band shoot into Up On The Catwalk.
Again, the arrangement is now familiar from the other bootlegs (not much different to the live version on Alive And Kicking)

"Let's open up and grow up! This is called The Book Of Brilliant Things.
This recording is clearer than Selfluminous and you can really hear Mick in the mix.
The slow quiet instrumental can also be fully appreciated for the first time.

A great version of Glittering Prize followed,
and then Jim announced "If we can go back a couple of years to a record called Sister Feelings Call - Derek!
and the band break into the Sparkle version of The American.
With all the changes, the new intro and verse, Jim's extra vocalising and the clarity of this bootleg,
this makes this performance the definitive version for this tour.

With Jim's usual intro talk, the drum samples of King Is White And In The Crowd start.
Charlie's new improvisation is there, and Mick's subtle playing and melodies can now be heard clearly.
There's a break in the recording and it resumes with Jim's announcement of Speed Your Love To Me.
"Where are we going" asked Jim. "Higher" reply the audience as the instrumental pause in the middle of the song starts,
Charlie starts to improvise, and Jim breaks into the C Moon Cry Like A Baby bridge.
Again, this is the definitive version of this coupling." You go to my head!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A slight distortion of Jim's voice is present at times, plus some extra hiss, but this is a good, clear bootleg.
It sounds like a soundboard recording or even an FM broadcast. Recommended.

SO NOW HERE IS THE FULL SOUNDBOARD!!!!

Normalization acted and others little additional improvements.
This version is really a 5 stars concert.

Enjoy.

The Buzzcocks - The Music Hall, Toronto, Ontario, Canada - 07.09.1979 (Flac)

Created from a first generation cassette copy of an audience recording.  This was recorded by the same person who recorded the support slot by Gang Of Four

(as in, information about his recording equipment is mainly forgotten/lost by me), although some more (although still very limited) information about the recording equipment he was using at the time is available in the description of another slightly earlier Gang Of Four small club show he recorded, details here :-

Both of those are excellent sounding for audience captures from this period, and also so is this one in my estimation, but also please feel free to check out the 1-minute mp3 sample I will be providing below if you need more convincing.

Known lineage (Conversion to FLAC) :-

Traded 1st gen Maxell source tape -> Aiwa ADF770 3-head, dual capstan cassette deck -> SB Extigy soundcard -> CoolEdit Pro 2.1 -> WAV -> TLH -> FLAC 8 + .ffp

This is the second gig ever that Felt played in Portugal. This is a very audible recording for that time and for the excitment that was going on in the audience. I have no info on source about this one because i bought it as soon as it came out at the time.
On an interview in 2004 Lawrence said that he remembered the portuguese shows because the audience and the promoters were not used to bands playing only 30 minutes and so they were forced on stage to play more. They did not prepare for longer shows and that is why some songs have a reprise. Lawrence also said that the Lisboa concert that took place the night before would probably see the light of day on an oficial release because he had a good recording of it which was a rare thing for a Felt concert since that usualy they did not record any of the band's gigs.
Song 11 is the first encore but i am not sure if this was the only song played. Maybe song 12 and 13 were part of it too but the taper stoped recording after song 11. Then he kept 12 and 13 together and stop. Song 14 is isolated and then the band comes back and finishes the show with song 15, 16 and 17. On a review i have from this show they talk about 3 encores but as it is recorded it is 4 encores. Nevertheless the show is complete i just added fades on track 01, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 because there were rought cuts in sound at the beggining and end of the songs. There are small gaps on tracks 02 and 06 but those are on the tape aswell it is not a result of transfer.
I don't remember seing this one around here but i might be wrong. Still i am looking for a recording of the previous night to this in Lisboa. I had it and lost it does anyone have it?
Enjoy have fun, share but do not sell.
And can we have more Felt around here, please?! :-)
Cheers
Z
