New Order - SO36 Club Berlin, Germany - 27.05.1981 (DVD)

What a treat! Thanks to redclaw for sharing and to S+©kmªÑ for the links.

Here is a treat for Donors who like Joy Division. Just over a week after the first anniversary of Ian Curtis' suicide, the remaining members of Joy Division and Gillian Gilbert (who had appeared a few times with Joy Division live on guitar) played this Berlin date as New Order. By no means of perfect quality, this is regardless a great historic document for Joy Divison and New Order fans. They still obviously sound like Joy Division minus Curtis at this stage, although electronica was already taking a more prominent role in the songs. They played one song before Ceremony on the night (The Him) but it isnt captured here, nor is most of Ceremony- apart from the very end. The ropey old video tape quality (see Screenshots) is made rather worse by the fact the band play in semi-darkness with the minimal of stage lighting, but it is still worth watching. When I first got this dvdr in trade it would not play, although I could see there was data on the disc. Thanks to Otalgia who managed to extract the data and reburn it onto another disc. Thanks also to the cameraman (unknown) for capturing this early appearance by the band.
