Nitzer Ebb - The Videos (ProShot DVD)
ATTENTION: This video is not up to the usual standards of quality of the other videos the DCR team created/compiled. This one is composed of 480p videos taken from various streaming websites. If you're still curious why we did it anyway. please continue reading.
Not only me, but S+©kmªÑ also, were pursuing a good quality compilation of these videos for some time now, so we were delighted when a lossless VHS ripped compilation was sent our way. When it finally arrived... What a desapointment...
Sure, the DVD was compiled with various lossless VHS sources, but watching it was like a bad trip to the past.
VHS is out of use for more than a decade now, and even if there's a lot of VHS sourced bootlegs, usually they're sourced on master tapes or very good copies, so image is slighly degraded but enjoyable (VHS was never a very good system, but was the standard for most of the last two decades of the 20th century).
The compilatiom we received, the first one totally (digitally) lossless, was compiled with a mix of various different sources, and each one of them seemed to have a different kind of VHS artifact, so you got:
- grainy picture
- difused picture
- distorted picture
- distorted sound
- low sound level
resulting of the fact that the original tapes were quite high generation ones.
On top of that:
- songs were not arranged in any understanble order
- videos were recorded from music channels, so they had the logo of the channel always present on the image, plus the names of the songs interfering in the beggining and end
- Different sound levels from song to song
All in all, a very frustating experience to watch. I joked inbetween us that I prefered my 480p videos than this, the supposed real thing. That was enough to inspire S+©kmªÑ to make a DVD to check how the result was in the end...
In the end, both of us thought this was much better than the other version, so we decided to share it here.
What can you expect
On the up side:
- Sound levels equal inbetween all of the songs
- No other inteferences on the image apart from the 480p compression (with exception on the Machineries of Joy Video wich has some logo imprinted on it), this means, colour not degraded, no distortions, no jumps.
- Songs organized by date, making it easier to understand the band progresion of video aesthetics.
- DVD Menu
On the down side
- Streaming compression on the video! Need I say more? The most irritating compression possible, because most of the times the picture is near perfect, but then, out of nowhere, the goddamn squares appear on the dark parts of the image or when image gets lower lights or faster editing.
Frustating again... But in comparison a much better experience to watch than the VHS version, take it from me, it's true. Anyway, I include lots of thumbnails so that you can check them before deciding to download.
The best thing would be if mute records opened their eyes and released this in a proper DVD, but until then...
Speaking of DVDs and Nitzer Ebb, the band just released their first official live DVD "Live At Markthalle" we higly recommend it, go buy it on their website!

Another rare ass tape that I didnt even know existed from the Foxtrotter archive vaults stored underneath the salt mines of Detroit. So, give thanks for him making the strenuous journey through the mines to get these out of storage. It's hot down there!
This sounds like, and from what this DJ says, it is a audience recording that was broadcast on KUSF a few days later. There are cuts in several places and I dont think this is complete, but it is a very nice recording and I've never heard of it or many other 1981 US topur shows until they make it to Dime. Maybe time to reseed some of those 81 US shows, I know Philly and Washington DC were on Dime a few years back, the Philly show at the Eastside Club had audio and video, the video is probably still being seeded.
