This is a nice venue for concerts but i always had trouble recording here.
Only with this recorder i was able to pull a recording like i wish i did in other concerts at the same venue. I like it.
The concert was a blast because it was weird, intense, magic, intimist. Peter talked a lot because things between songs were not working inside the band. Leading to some strange and hilarious moments on stage. But when the music started things were intense and filled with emotion.
The inclusion of a second guitar for this line up is a blessing and the right move. Songs gain a new life. Peter's voice goes to other dimensions. and the songs get all the emotion, rawness, power, beauty they deserve. I loved every second of music in this show.
The new songs are great pointing us to a new album that should be one of the best Peter has done in years. Let's hope it sees the light of day soon.
I would like to ask if there are any other recordings of the european dates from this tour flying around and if so could someone upload it here or point a direction?

Not the complete set, but it is all that was broadcast.  I think there was at least one more song in the encore, but I don't remember what's missing.  One cool thing, though, in the middle of "Subway" he sings a bit of David Bowie's "Oh, You Pretty Things,"  which some guy in the lobby after the show was trying to convince me was actually David Byrne!  Anyway, enjoy the show; I hope some more Peter Murphy turns up now.

The night started on the wrong foot but ended very very well. I don't know if it is 
the same guy for years or if it is Peter's way but the sound on this show was almost 
pure crap. No dynamics between instruments at all and loud as hell. So loud it ruined 
the beginning of Cascade and even throughout the song you can listen some clips that 
were coming out of the PA. For Secret the sound was already balanced but they fucked 
up during All Night Long. Completely out of balance for most of the song, the bass was
wrong and then the tambourine... only Peter was standing firm and on the spot :-)
All the Bauhaus songs sounded better for me than Peter's songs. For me it was the best
part of the show. Not that the show was bad, not at all it is me, i was hoping for 
Peter to take some risks on the set list  but i was wrong. I am getting a bit 
tired of Marlene's, Strange Kind... glad he did not play Cuts You Up :-) It was a sold
out show and the crowd came out very happy.
As for the recording i believe it came out good. This room has good acoustics but it 
is always hard for me to record in there, go figure. Gaslist unfortunatelly is cut at the begining because i missed the point of rendering since i was recording at 96 KHz.

Notes:

Great show by Mr. Murphy, but unfortunately, his voice was a little worse for wear. It might have been due to the fact that this was his 5th gig in a row or perhaps he was ill (he was coughing a lot). Regardless, he was physically active and put a lot into the show. He's such an incredibly charismatic performer and his amusing banter with the audience continues to be a highlight.

Both PM and his main opener, Reckless In Vegas, made reference to how so many people were in the back (the upper levels) and wondered why we wouldn't come down to the main floor. There were two reasons for that: 1) the drinking area was restricted to the sides of the upper levels 2) it always cost more to be on the main floor (VIP area). Plus, a downside to being that close to the stage is mentioned during the first talking bit by PM when someone complains about the inability to hear his vocal.

I hadn't been to the Ventura Theatre since the last time PM played there in 2008 and a lot had changed since then. Some good things (no more tables = no more having to sit with strangers!); some odd things (there is a giant curtain blocking off the upper floor level and balcony, thus making the venue less than half its capacity). But like that last PM show, there were once again two local pay to play acts, along with a third opener who was part of PM's regular tour. Set up times were a lot smoother than last time around and the first act started soon after doors opened. Because of those factors, it allowed PM to come on at 10pm (unlike the 2008 show, when he didn't come on until 11pm and I had to leave shortly thereafter).

There also seemed to be more drunks at this show. There was an intoxicated, talkative dingbat behind me during "Hurt" (thanks to the man near my right for telling her off), but at least she isn't as annoying on this recording as she was at the show. Then, at the end of the show, a security guard had to deal with this one dude who appeared to want to enter the 21+ section and wouldn't take no for an answer. Headlock and tackling on the floor ensued. Fortunately, that last bit isn't on the recording, but you'll hear the man being told it's time to leave. There actually isn't too much audience noise on this one. Save for the aforementioned drunk girl, people around me didn't talk during the show. But I will mention there are a few distant screamers and one can hear security yelling after the encore break that it's now okay for us general admission people to go into the VIP area. As for the volume of the show, be forewarned that "Subway" has a loud bass backing track, so it's rather intense on that song.

I was lucky enough to get a setlist, but after "Subway" it doesn't match up because PM changed things around. Rather sad to miss out on the "Raw Power" cover, particularly after the energy of "Cuts You Up" that seemed to make everyone go nuts--especially when PM started touching everybody's hands, plus flashed us his belly and mouthed the word "fat" while motioning his arm to accentuate his tummy's size (sadly, no nipple flashes like at the Santa Cruz show, but a tummy flash is good too!).

I didn't touch anything on this recording. And if burning to cds, the suggested split is between "Subway" and "Hurt."

Third date of the "Ninth" album promotional tour. Again plagued by some issues that interrupted the flow of the concert, this time it seemed that it was more "artistically" related than technical problems, unlike the day before in Lisbon.  I'll fall on your Knife had a false start and afterwards the concert stopped for six minutes, hearing the recording one might think that's the encore break, but reports from persons who were there say that Peter was quite irritated with some members of the band and left the stage... So probably they had a small meeting in the backstage. Must have worked, because what followed next is a perfect choice of song in a very energetic performance.

Strange rough sound mix, with very low level for Peter's voice.

Maybe Peter had some problems with his voice that night ???
You can hear, here and there, audience asking for "more voice".

Notes:
It seems that the european version of th Mr Moonlight tour isn't stricly Bauhaus songs, Peter sneaked a couple of his solo records songs into the setlist along with some covers. Actually Subway and the Joy Division cover can be pointed  as the highlights of the night along with She's In Parties, with it's long dub finale.

The gig was quite full, I tried to get a nice place to record while still being able to enjoy the concert, unfortunately when the concert started a lot of people came from the bars and I wasn't able to move. Why did I had to move away? Well,the place was good and the sound of the recording is very good, better than the sound on the venue, but...

I ended up next to some annoying persons that talked a lot during the concert, not one but many, they talked behind me, in front of me, to the left and to right. If you understand portuguese and listen carefully you will notice at some point a guy talking about his debts to the social security... During a song... Taper's worst nightmare or how the crisis affects recordings...

Why do people pay the ticket if they don't really want to be there and act like if they were on the bar?

So, if you want a clean recording, this isn't for you. A pity because there's some really nice moments and otherwise the recording sounds very good.

The performance:

Peter and company played to a sold out crowd at O.C.'s "The Observatory" (The former "Galaxy Theatre"). The show was originally scheduled for the 300-capacity "Constellation Room". As ticket demand over the past two weeks spiked to three times that size, the show was aptly moved to the main room. The audience was a cross section of the Bauhaus faithful, trendy goths, and the O.C. kids that perhaps missed the real deal six years ago. Peter and company stormed through a 90 minute set of eleven Bauhaus standards, three newish tracks from the band's epilogue "Go Away White" and the surprising "The Three Shadows, Part II". Many of the tracks from the band's last reconveining didn't make it into tonite's set. This included or more accurately excluded "Double Dare", "God In An Alcove", "Spirit" and "Rosegarden Funeral of Sores". In spite of Peter's appreciation the band did not close with the requisite "We Love Our Audience" instead choosing Dead Can Dance's "Severance", a track conspicuously absent from that band's own reunion this past year. Peter's voice was still pretty hoarse as a result of a pretty severe cold and the fact that he is entering the Dylan period of his career. He did fare better with the Haus material than his own solo songs the night before. Still, AWEWWE should have been left of the setlist. Peter at one point towards the end of the performance professes that "This is no virtual Bauhaus". IMHO it wasn't quite Bauhaus, but it wasn't
bad either. The band's playing wasn't as much of an issue as Peter's voice. In spite of everything it was still a great show!
Emilio begins to mistakenly play "Stigmata Martyr" after "The Passion of Lovers" instead of "She's In Parties". I marked the track at the beginning of the error.

The recording...

This was my 25th PM and/or Bauhaus show for those following my progress / descent. The crowd was pretty chatty especially in the pit and an altercation broke out during BFTI as 200+ tried to vie for those coveted spots. "Massive Security" provided "Minimal Security". Fortunately the situation self-regulated before a melee broke out. Too old, too sick and too tired to deal with a throng of douchebags, I set up shop outside the pit on the second rail approximately three feet above the floor level. The venue has benefited from a substantial sound system upgrade under the new proprietors. They are also more concerned with putting on proper events rather than serving dinner. Still, it's time to re-think security though. My omnis fared much better at this venue than in the past. Sound is much more direct and much less boomy. There is a fair amount of chatter during the quiet opening of  "Zikir" and the quieter TTSPII, AWEWWE, "Hollow Hills" and "Severance". Nothing that is too distracting and much of it isn't directly "on-mic" thankfully. I'm giving this an EX- in spite of mild adversity and Peter's vocal challenges. In order to preserve the dynamic range, no normalization was applied. That being said, I applied a +3dB "kiss" to "Zikir". Use your volume knob at your
own discrection. I trust you.

Of note:

Commemorative T-shirts were sold at the venue. Perhaps as a "fuck-you" to David J more than anything else. In spite of my respect, I'm in. Peter performed the very rare "The Three Shadows, Part II". The fans go "ape-shit" during "Bela". Many of which probably thought to themselves "It's a song Peter wrote about the 'Twilight' girl!" Also, Matt Flugger from "The Black Current" stage hopped and provided some additional guitar work for SIP, SM, DE and "Severance".

The performance:

Peter and company played to a sold out crowd at O.C.'s "Constellation Room" a 300 capacity bar inside "The Observatory". What served as the lounge space in the former "Galaxy Theatre" has been converted into a small bar complete with trendy c-note vodkas and a rather competent sound system (arguably better than the main venue). In spite of two month's rest, Peter's voice was very hoarse as a result of a pretty severe cold and the fact that he is entering the Dylan period of  his career. It's a shame and almost heartbreaking at times to listen to this once iconic instrument broken and smashed beyond repair (hear: "Seven Veils"). Think of someone taking a hammer to a Bosendorfer. He struggles to keep pitch with his backing stems for much of the show. In spite of this, Peter and the band perform a cracking set of 1989's alt-music college radio staple "Deep". Mark's guitar playing has never been better as witnessed by the incendiary leads on TLBTDT
and "Roll Call". Also, Emilio seems to be a lot more comfortable with the material one year later. His violin playing is a welcome addition to MDFP and ASKOL. Oddly enough the violin strains of "Cuts You Up" were tracked. He played bass instead.
Mark's backing vox are a bit "off" during "Memory Go" (No, that's not a drunken fan). God Bless him.


The recording...

This was my 24th PM and/or Bauhaus show for those following my progress / descent. The crowd was pretty tame and respectful. Very strange by L.A. / O.C. standards. Most of the cheering / bar chatter is not directly "on mic". One girl who slid in front of me at the beginning of "Gaslit" asks me to take more pictures with her camera. I raised my index finger to my lips and she said no more. If it only were this easy all the time! All-in-all a pretty referential pull for my modest rig. Instrument mix was pretty well balance with Peter's voice moving in and out at times. "Roll Call" volume variations are due to Peter "windmilling" with mic in hand and picking up Nick's kit at times. Michael Shapiro (ex-Reckless in Vegas) performed an opening acoustic set once again. This time the audience was pretty well behaved. As a result we received a better reception from the band. In spite of Peter's vocal woes he was in very good spirits. Peter speaks of the Newtown tragedy after getting lost in the set after "Crystal Wrists". Also, he does make some vocal jabs at his former Bauhaus bandmates.  In order to preserve the dynamic range, no normalization was applied. That being said, I applied a +3dB "kiss" to MDFP, ASKOL, and "Gaslit". Use your volume knob at your own discrection. I trust you.

Of note:

Peter performed the very rare "Cascade" from said album and "Your Face" from "Dust", very nice additions to the rather static setlists of the last two years. Mark played his Les Paul custom exclusively. His Schecter Corsair remained untouched.
