NOTES:
The new 'Tales Of Us' isn't my favourite Goldfrapp by a long chalk. It's a
rather sedate offering after 2010's raunchy 'Head First', but ultimately I
don't mind.
I commend Alison Goldfrapp (and any other artist) for challenging her fans by
reinventing her sound yet again (some might say rediscovering her older sound)
with this album. It may yet grow on me, of course, but in general, I feel
Alison is at her best when she's concocting her own unique cocktail of disco
and glam-rock.
This naturally means that I am in for a mixed evening, listening through the
new material and hoping it will ignite something within me, whilst -- let's be
honest -- counting the minutes until the older material is pulled out of the
hat. And so it goes. In fact, much of the chosen older repertoire this evening
also consists of slower songs.
'Thea' notably makes its maiden voyage tonight in the Paradiso, but the
proceedings don't start to build up a head of steam until 'Ride A White
Horse', by which time we're almost at the end of the main set. 'Ooh La La'
takes us into the encore break in the old familiar way.
Returning for a four song encore, the band end with the double jam of 'Train'
and -- what else but? -- 'Strict Machine'. Sadly for me, no 'Rocket' is
launched this evening.
I didn't have time to get this to you before the autumn holiday, but I can
assure you that the quality of the recording has made it worth the wait. This
is about as good as an audience recording of the band can sound.
As always, samples are included in the comments to assist you in deciding
whether or not to download this.

One of my favourite artists, I really love Goldfrapp, and this show is as brilliant as usual!
I blended the two broadcasts together to eradicate the idents and dj chatter. I'll never understand why they purposely taint the music they broadcast...

Goldfrapp - Coliseu, Lisboa, Portugal - 22.09.2010 (Flac)
Goldfrapp's second concert in Portugal this year, after playing in the Marés Vivas Festival in July. The venue as 2/3 full, wich was nice since you had some space. The sound was excellent even if a little too loud sometimes, The band was dressed in glitter and Allison had some fans that made her air float all the time she was on the front, a really nice effect also on her wardrobe. The setlist was mainly based on the new album with some space for the older hits.
I got to admit that my favourite albun from them is still "Felt Mountain" (ten years old already...)so I was really pleasently surprised for the inclusion of "Lovely head" on the first encore, and judging by the audience response to the first notes of the song, I was not the only one.
The recording is exactly has it comes out of the MD,it sounds quite good, in my opinion, even if the MD compression kicks in sometimes. Some clapping and crowd chatting, but not much.
Recorded by circle.
