Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Seaport Blues Festival, Haifa, Israel - 23.06.1993 + Glastonbury Festival, UK - 25.06.1994 + Mark Radcliffe Show - 14.03.1994 (Flac)

Very good collection of FM broadcasts. thanks to the original uploader on Dime.

June 23, 1993

SOURCE: FM Radio broadcasts (no detail on lineage)

Notes:
To continue with Nick’s tapes from the 90ies: The original idea was to release perhaps 1 show/tour; and those tape shouldn’t have been on dime in the last 2-3 years, should sound nice, and have some decent source/lineage info (there are many shows that I have with no source information on whatsoever!). Requests welcome :)

1993 is a difficult one! There were only 23 shows to begin with; and among 8 that I have, most lack source info or came from here :) there are just a couple exceptions and ONLY ONE is complete which made this Haifa Seaport Blues festival in Israel an obvious choice! This is an FM broadcast, and it sounds quite nice although I think someone edited out DJ host together with the music he was talking over. So in many places there are virtually no breaks between songs. Then again - would you prefer a DJ yakking? It’s a tough one!! There was some interesting technical difficulty during The Weeping Song - they stopped singing, but the rhythm section continues - seems like Blixa was switching his guitar or something. Than audience resumed singing and then Nick got everyone (one-two-three!) on the same page again :) Kind of fun to hear!
Now, to keep this going: my coverage of 1994 is limited to dime-sourced or unsourced shows, HOWEVER - this 1993 Israeli FM came with some very nice 1994 FM add-ons - from Glastonbury and Mark Radcliffe show - so I figured this particular 2xCD set really fits the bill!!

Enjoy! And anything Nick Cave you are willing to seed will be much appreciated as well!

Don't know anything about equipment and i got my tape through a trade and on one of its labels says tape is generation 2. This is my first transfer to digital of this tape it was traded back in the days of snail mail but i have never seen it floating around.
Enjoys and share.

1976-90. New. The story of the legendary Hansa studios in Berlin, which used to overlook the Wall and has hosted many well-known acts including David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Depeche Mod, Nick Cave and Brian Eno, to name but a few, great live version of Lust for Life with Tony Sales on Bass and Gaz Coombes I believe on vocals.

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Pavilhão Carlos Lopes, Lisbon, Portugal - 16.12.1988 (Flac)

One of my fondest memories :) HUGE Thanks to everubody involved in making this recording avaiable.

Original Info:

29th Anniversary release!!

Tender Prey tour, 1st leg - Europe
The band was playing for the first time in Portugal.

taper: Ana
source: mini tape recorder (Sony?) > Sony UX-S90 cassette
transfer: master tape > Arrela Portable Cassette player > USB > PC (Audacity) > wav
general mastering (ZH) - removed static discharge clicks appeared during digitizing process / reduce tape and player noise (DeNoise app); patch between tracks 3-4.
editing, cleaning, retracking (inez) - iZotope Rx > Audacity > flac 16/44.1

Editor notes:
I am uber happy to be able to get out this historic document of the first Nick show in Portugal on the 29th anniversary of the gig. This was recorded by my friend Ana who I e-met in one of Nick facebook fan groups - and she mentioned this - her FIRST EVER tape. OK, has everyone pictured a 20-year old girl with a tape recorder at a Nick Cave show in 1988? Exactly. I donÕt think there were many! Anyways - she kindly transferred the tape (actually, I think her son did!) last year in response to my nagging :-) and sent me the wav. Also included are photos of the tape and some photos she took at the show.

There were two stumbles: something went wrong with the tape recorder at the end of From Her To Eternity - beginning of Your Funeral My Trial. By some CRAZY twist of fate, I acquired ANOTHER - lossy and Ôlineage-freeÕ recording of the show - and my friend ZH kindly and seamlessly patched the gap using that other tape. The other stumble is the unavoidable flip tape - it happens to be in the middle of KnockinÕ On Joe - canÕt patch that one since those other folks were flipping their tape at the same time Lol

With respect to the quality, from my description, you can gather this is not your Ôrefined listening experienceÕ - you kinda feel like you are in the midst of it all. ItÕs pretty mad :) Some guy whistles a lot (and I removed quite a bit of his whistling), there are screams and cheers and occasional sing/scream-alongs (removed some of those too!) and itÕs loud and unruly :) I am happy Ana transferred the tape because I think it may begin to deteriorate soon. But this is an amazing relic - so Nick collectors are probably going to be quite happy to have this!
Enjoy - happy anniversary!

This is a partial recording of the first concert by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds in Portugal. I was not there but those who were talk about a packed house and a wild wild night.
Pitty the concert is not complete it misses 6 songs but what we get is quite nice. The sound is a bit muffled but still quite listenable.
I am not sure if this circulated much i traded long long ago maybe at the beggining of 1989. My tape is old but still stands :-)no clue on tape generation or equipment used.
Enjoy and share.
Cheers

Notes:
This was one dangerous show, folks. We don't usually do the after-midnight sets, but we
made an exception here. This guy is the real deal. A riveting perforer with a ferocious
band. Your eyes did not leave the stage for fear that he might come out in the audience
and slit your throat or put a couple of bullets in your head. Seriously.

That didn't stop the ladies from getting up close as he prowled the edge of the stage
and
asked them to feel his "heartbeat". You had to be there, but if you weren't we've got you
covered.

This recording comes to you compliments of Ms. Floydz- she had enough sense to watch her
recording levels and keep the music under control while Nick and the boys vaporized our
other recorder. Nicely done, Judi. Might have to raise your pay.

A Team FLOYDZ recording.

NOTES:

The distinguished Nick Cave is playing two nights in Amsterdam, a couple of
weeks apart. The second of these shows is actually the first, in a sense,
because it was only when that gig sold out within mere minutes that another,
tonight's, was added.

This second show hasn't sold out, but it must have come damn close. It's
pretty packed in here tonight.

Support comes from the excellent Shilpa Ray.

The wankers around me don't really give her a chance and talk through most of
her set, but I do my best to tune them out and enjoy her one-woman odyssey of
vocals and harmonium.

On the way out, I avail myself of a copy of her new EP, the observantly titled
and reasonably priced 'It's All Self Fellatio', released on Cave's own Bad
Seed label.

The man we've come to see takes to the stage at 21:00, equal parts enigma and
charisma. Dressed in a black suit and sporting his patented slicked-back,
dyed-black, thinning straggles of hair in a look that only a man of some
considerable repute can hope to pull off without ridicule.

For more than two hours, Cave holds the Heineken Music Hall in his spell with
a sublime performance. It's unbelievable to think that he's been doing this
for more than 30 years. 56 years young, he belts it out this evening with the
verve of a teenager who has been granted 15 minutes of stage time by a jaded
promoter.

Incidentally, I'm going to take this opportunity to express my boundless
contempt for the irritating drones who barge a path through the crowd all
evening, peddling beer from the stupid green cylinder strapped to their back,
nearly taking my eye out with their crass little Heineken flagpole and, much
more sinfully, causing spontaneous conversations to erupt during the music.

They're invariably young, probably students, and whilst I understand that
everyone needs a way to pay the rent, I'd rather see these fuckers living on
the street under a cardboard box than have them interfere with the music I
have paid good money to come and see. And for what? So that the management can
eek out a few extra beer sales.

The same diminutive girl seems to be ploughing an invisible furrow, beating a
path that takes her right past my spot all evening. Anyone in her way is
unceremoniously barged aside, me included. Conversations about beer and change
are struck up with no regard for anyone who might be more interested in the
music.

It's bad enough when there's noise from the bar at a gig, but the ongoing
subjugation of art by commerce has now reached the point that the soulless
wankers who run this place feel entitled to ensure that the bar is now
everywhere and thereby effectively unavoidable.

They casually and disrespectfully inflict its roving annoyances on the 49 out
of every 50 of us who have no interest in buying. God forbid a thimbleful of
beer should go unsold tonight, or one plastic glass fewer get noisily crushed
underfoot.

Fuck those people. Why is rock music treated with such blatant disregard? The
corporate canines wouldn't dare try that shit with opera-goers or classical
music buffs, would they?

Now, where was I?

Ah yes, Nick Cave. I'll keep it short.

There's plenty of engagement with the audience tonight. Cave frequently
approaches right to the edge of the stage, one such occasion being 'Higgs
Boson Blues'. "Can you hear my heartbeat?" he asks, as grasping hands make
eager contact with his chest.

Other highlights are the ever-dependable 'The Mercy Seat' and the grippingly
spun yarn of 'Stagger Lee', the latter belted out here with the kind of
fervour that might cause you to mistake Cave for a character in the story,
rather than its narrator. It's an absolutely absorbing performance.

The sound in the HMH tonight is impeccable and really, REALLY loud. I have to
turn the microphone inputs down so far that the audience sound as if they've
gone home for much of the gig. The gunfire during 'Stagger Lee' comes bursting
through with a crackle like someone pouring water into the PA.

There's also a deep, rich low end in evidence tonight. Just listen to the
thunder that opens 'Tupelo' or the grinding 'Hiding All Away' for an
illustration.

More than two hours of music finally come to an end with a new song, 'Give Us
A Kiss'. Slowly, we come back down to Earth.

The recording is superb. I really couldn't be happier with it and a lot of
Nick Cave fans will be beaming from ear to ear after giving it a spin. I
certainly hope so, anyway.

As always, samples are included in the comments to assist in deciding whether
or not to download it.

Nick will be back at this venue in two weeks for his original sold-out show. I
will be there, too, microphones at the ready.

Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds - Bazant Pohoda, Slovakia - 13.07.2013 (Flac)

Original infi file:

taper: NOCNA HUDBA

Source: Zoom H1 24bit-96kHz > flac > edit > you

Editing: BLG -- minor editing (a ittle 'declapping' and 'descreaming'), resample/dither to 16/44 via Adobe Audition

AWESOME POWER CAPTURE!!

Huge thanks to Nocna Hudba for capturing this show (and Atoms For Peace  show, the headliner from the July 12th night - http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=459030) and for responding to our request by promptly sharing the original 24b/96lacs with us!

This really is a GREAT tape in my opinion - clean crisp sound even though this is an outdoor festival; a few particularly enthusiastic audience add-ons were 'surgically removed' by BLG :) So I think it does justice to the stunning performance! Internal mics - but, man, you will be surprised. The only sad part is that we are missing the first trackÉ.

Enjoy!!
