Time for some Post Punk from Rich's collection.

Rich attended this gig on 7/20/82 and his friend recorded it. This was an unannounced show.

There does seem to be a recording in limited circulation with a date of 7/19/82, with the exact same set list.

Gang of Four most definitely did NOT play on 7/19.  Copies that made it into cd trades, were just mis-dated.

There was a tape flip during the middle of track 12, otherwise complete.

I've included photos of the j-card and cassette.

EN remaster notes
1.1.2015
It's Andy Gill's 58th birthday and the birth of a new year with new possibilities as well, so I rang it all in after midnight by sitting down with this wild Go4 set from Hofstra University on Long Island, aired by WLIR-FM in 1983 on the HARD tour. I'm pretty heretical when it comes to this band, in that I really like the last two records they made in the 1980s when their moment was deemed "over" by the always-positive and respectful music press. Anyway it's a great sounding master chrome cassette capture that was a prime candidate to get really popping, especially the sultry snap of Sara Lee's boombastic bass. I feel that the Sound Forge graphic dynamics tools are great for these FM things because they really blow them up to a big-screen type of presence and serve to somewhat liberate them from their implicit compression, and this one was no exception. Whereas before it sounded great (yet a little dull and lacking life), now it's razor sharp and honed to a gleaming perfection, or close to it anyways. Have a listen and see what your ears say, and of course a very Happy Birthday to the one and only Andy Gill as well as the very best 2015 to all of you reading this :)

Gang Of Four - The Longhorn, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - 10.09.1979 (Flac)

Thanks to the original uploader on Dime.

LINEAGE:
2 Shure SM57 mics>Sony TC-D5 stereo recorder>Maxell UDXLII cassette>Yamaha-KX330 tape deck>Terratec-EWX soundcard>EAC-WAV>EAC-FLAC

Taper: Minnesota Mike

This is a companion to "Buzzcocks 1979-09-10 Minneapolis" which I've also uploaded. Gang Of Four were the opening act for the Buzzcocks that night and Mike recorded them both. Also of note is that The Clash were in the audience, as they were in town to play in St Paul on the 12th. A big week in Twin Cities music history!

This is straight from the mastertape. I have not done any EQing, filtering, editing, or any kind of tampering with the sound.

I don't put sound ratings on these uploads -- I'd prefer to have somebody independent (such as yourself) judge that. So, after you've downloaded and listened, post a comment on the sound quality.

Minnesota Mike made audience recordings of shows in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area between 1978 to 1985. He used a stereo Sony TC-D5 tape recorder and two Shure studio microphones, top-of-the-line equipment in those days. He recorded shows just for himself and never made copies. I met him years later and he allowed me to trade tape copies around 1993. Later when the technology became available, I traded some on CDR. So some of the copies that are out there are second generation or more, and some are digital copies of the master. I wasn't a very active trader and, in fact, some of Mike's tapes have never circulated. The digital copies I'm uploading now were made in 2006 with azimuth adjustments on the tapedeck and a Terratec EWX soundcard to the computer. Mike's tapes are often mistaken for Soundboard or FM sources -- but they are not, they are audience recordings.
