Projekt Records - Victor Frankenstein - Music For A Dark Evening (Free Download)

Digital freelease: What if Projekt had put together the soundtrack to the upcoming VICTOR FRANKENSTEIN film starring Daniel Radcliffe of Harry Potter Fame?

HOW TO DOWNLOAD: Chose "Buy Now" above and enter zero, or a little bit more if you'd like to leave a donation. It's appreciated.

Victor F is coming to theaters on November 20. Sam thought it would be fun to create a dark and spooky alternate soundtrack; this is what the movie score could have sounded like if Projekt had been the music supervisor. “I went through the Projekt catalog and pulled tracks both spooky and soundtracky for this compilation that’s available for name-your-price at Bandcamp. You could go buy it for $5 at iTunes, but you certainly don’t have to; that’s for people not-in-the-know. The goal of putting this album up at the traditional digital vendors (and the streaming sites like Spotify) is to get people to hear Projekt’s music for the first time.”

Victor Frankenstein (music for a dark evening) is also a perfect spooky soundtrack for Halloween!

Enjoy Projekt’s freelease!

Various Artists - Fifty Shades of Grey (Free Download)

Digital freelease: What if Projekt had put together the soundtrack to Fifty Shades of Grey?

In the next couple of weeks you’re going to be bombarded with ads and news articles about the Fifty Shades of Grey movie. While I'm not expecting much from Hollywood's mainstream idea of what is erotic, this did give me a fun idea: What if the film studio had contacted Projekt to put together the soundtrack? What would that sound like?

I went through the Projekt catalog and pulled tracks both cinematic and soundtracky for this compilation that’s available for name-your-price at Bandcamp. You could also go buy it at iTunes, but you certainly don’t have to; that’s for people not-in-the-know.

I had a lot of fun putting this imaginary soundtrack together. I think I’ll do more in the future. What would Projekt’s version of the new Star Wars soundtrack sound like? Blade Runner 2? The rumored new X-files? I think we’re going to find out!

Enjoy Projekt’s freelease of Fifty Shades of Grey (music for a sensual evening) at Bandcamp.

Black Tape For A Blue Girl (Free Downloads)

Ten Neurotics (2009)

From Sam: I still love 10 NEUROTICS, the 2009 album from Black tape for a blue girl. I think it was a departure, and listening to it right now, I think it's an amazing performance by Athan, Brian, Laurie, Nicki & myself. But, I think a lot of people missed it, or didn't get it. Either because it came out during that death-of-cds-era, or they were put off by the naked girly and the themes of personal revelation. How about you give it another chance? I put it up for Name Your Price here so you can check it out. If you toss in two or three bucks, that would be really sweet of you. But more than giving me money, what I would love for you to do is give the album a listen. If you like it, please share it on your facebook page.

Please be so kind as to share this link with 10 of your friends. I want people to hear this album!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Emotionally charged, theatrical, bold, raucous, heartbreaking, and beautiful, 10 Neurotics is a grand and exciting musical direction for Black Tape for a Blue Girl. Traversing fresh musical ground including the evocative flavouring of Dark Cabaret, they never fully relinquish their well-known sensually provocative sound. Blacktape emerges that much more important for its willingness to fearlessly incorporate unexpected elements into its work. They add a stronger, more theatrical component; you feel as if you are watching a powerful stage show in motion. 10 Neurotics is a great album! It may be Blacktape’s best!” – Matt Rowe, Muscictap.net.
10 Neurotics reimagines the passion of Black Tape For A Blue Girl (and visionary founder / songwriter, Sam Rosenthal) in a rock / dark cabaret setting. Sam challenged himself to put the electronics and lushness aside; he wrote these songs on the acoustic guitar, an instrument he had never played before. The results bear a more considered approach to songwriting: structured, melodic and dare say even “traditional” in composition. It is a new approach to the mood and power for which Blacktape is known.
Featuring drum kit and bass for the first time in 20 years (courtesy of new band-member Brian Viglione of The Dresden Dolls & The Violent Femmes), these fourteen songs are revealing first person narratives. These are stories so unnerving and personal that 10 Neurotics features an all-new line-up; the previous vocalists quit the group out of discomfort with the content.
This Lush Garden (1993)
Black Tape For A Blue Girl's 5th album.
An elegy to the goddess . . . "unable to kneel down and save you or pray to the cruel god who defiles you." A cry for truth and a more nurturing existence. Lucian's voice carries us beautifully through the feminine side, while Oscar's passionate vocals evoke the suffering of our carnal life, all guided by Sam Rosenthal's sensual, exotic gothic-ambient undertones.
A review from Spectre fanzine:
From the murky waters of tranquil-ethereal ambience, spiraling and ascending like hazy tendrils surrounding one in a moody liquid-embrace . . . the music overpowering in its rich lush textures, the album is abundant in waves of haunting beauty, mixed with melancholia that mingles and filters like luxurious incense trails . . . To experience Black Tape For A Blue Girl is to succumb to pure, raw emotions; feelings stripped bare, vulnerable yet alive.
A review from The Empty Quarter (UK):
Back again with yet another dramatic release, perfection in a gilded cage. The only criticism I can find to haunt Black Tape... with is repetition! Release after release it's the same, pure emotionally dripping volumes of an almost religious beauty. From the thought provoking front cover of a female nude strewn across a bombsite to the strategically placed contraceptive devices around a flask of milk (genocide orbiting the milk of life!?) on the back; to the rippling vocals enveloping the angelic chorus of guitars and keyboard on each track. They ooze class. Black Tape for a blue girl can be judged from differing view points, be it basic emotionally charged poetic liscense or cerebral statements, however you percieve them the ultimate analysis is they create a spellbinding masterpiece everytime they enter a studio. Once again full marks and more -- God! Don't you just loathe perfectionists.
Sam Rosenthal & Vidna Obmana - Terrace Of Memories
For a limited time, you can have this album for as little or as much as you want to contribute. It could be zero, it could be a buck. or five. Whatever you chip in is appreciated. Happy Holidays 2013, here's to a great new year.
An ambient instrumental release from black tape for a blue girl’s Sam Rosenthal in collaboration with vidnaObmana.
As far as I can recall, I began working on this collaboration with vidna after the recording of A chaos of desire. Dirk sent me cassette tapes of music, and I worked on my 8-track, I believe "Of silent crossings" and was very pleased with the result. But then got distracted by other projects, and the tapes were pushed to the back-burner and the album wasn't concluded until 1992. Quite honestly, I only have the vaguest memory of working on it in The Lush Garden studio in Los Angeles. I remember that even a few weeks after I finished a piece, it was hard for me to tell what parts I played and what parts were vidna. Aside from the low cello sound on my eMax, and the very slight vocals on the one track, who played what is a blur. That's cool. It's a great ambient blend.
I asked Vidna for his recollections on the album... "Back in the days, pre-internet, we traded a lot of tapes by mail. Projects and collaborations took much longer to complete due to the longer waiting times, waiting for the postal system to do their work. When I started to correspond with Sam in the mid 80s (I don't know really who contacted who), I was very into the albums by his Black Tape For A Blue Girl band. The eerie atmospheres and ambience which surrounding the songs were really mesmerizing and I could hear a blend of Sam's soundstructures with my ambience. So I sent him sources on tape. But with every collaboration release back then, time moved by before actually something was completed, again due to the slower way of communicating. Meaning that at the moment something came to you or vice-versa, it happened quite often you were already in a different state of mind. When Sam sent the first song, I wasn't in tune anymore despite Sam's brilliant interaction and additional performances. Nevertheless we completed the album and decided to release it as a Terrace Of Memories project, rather than a Sam Rosenthal & vidnaObmana album, most likely due to my doubts for the album back then. But with every strong album, my feelings towards this album changed over time and over the course of the next five years I learned to love this album again and it became and still is one of my favorite collaborations I ever done. And believe me I did plenty. Terrace of Memories is a real Sam Rosenthal & vidnaObmana collaboration and I truly wonder why we never did a follow-up. Enjoy."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

“More than ever before, Sam lets his emotions run away on a tide of ambient turbulence. Five drifting movements ride the intake of senses, breathing the air of life and surrounding beauty. As fullsome as the cycle of seasons, cascading visions of past and present contact loop and collide. A very deep personal intrusion into the mind & heart, represented by a dark, mysterious and sensual music. Cast adrift into the caring hands of this truly original and honest artist who not only lives within himself, but sheds his soul through others as well.”

Black Tape For A Blue Girl (Free Downloads)

Just been at the Black tape For A Blue Girl bandcamp sites and there's lots of free downloads there, list below. It's quite a generous gift from the band, if ou go there you may consider buying some of the other albuns from them.

MESMERIZED BY THE SIRENS was the 2nd Black Tape For A Blue Girl album. Flowing on its haunting thread . . . ethereal music enveloped in a lush dreamscape atmosphere. In the summer of 1987, Sam and Oscar are joined by Sue-Kenny's lovely British vocals for the most mysterious of their releases

A CHAOS OF DESIRE was the 4th Black Tape For A Blue Girl album. It was recorded in 1990 and released in early 1991. It was always one of my favorites, it's quite dark - Oscar and Julianna's vocals are wonderful. And I love the instrumental segments featuring violinist Vicki Richards. It really captured the pain and chaos of a broken heart.
