Cassette(audience,unknown gen,bought in Camden Market 1992) > wav > Groove Mechanic(dehiss) > wav > Soundforge(normalise L & R channels, speed correction) > wav > CDWave(split tracks on sector boundaries) > wav > flac(6)

This is the the last Slits gig (at least until the Slits comeback in 2005/2006).

There's 3 songs I've never heard anywhere else but this recording, so the titles are my own invention.  One song sounds like it should be called "True Warrior", but it's a totally different song to the song of the same name that Ari was to do much later.  If anyone has any idea what the correct titles are let me know.  The final two songs are really weird, and a really bizarre way to end the concert in my opinion.

It's an audience recording, the sound is a bit distant but I've heard worse, and two songs suffer from fluctuations in the speed and sound a bit odd, but it's their last gig, so enjoy!

Tape flip on the radio stations copy was after Life On Earth (the DJ had to stop and turn the tape over).
This is from the realmedia stream. I've never found a higher quality copy, hopefully someone has a tape they recorded off the radio.
Track 9 listed as "E Na Tu" on the WFMU webpage. A version of the song is on the BBC Sessions CD titled "The Wedding Song".
From the stream for the show hosted by Pat Duncan, October 10, 2002.

Sourced from the WFMU realmedia(.rm) stream (20.7kBps, 44.1kHz, Mono, G2, 16 bits).

This is really fantastic quality, although there's still some hiss - I couldn't remove it all.

There's an annoying buzz during the last 3 minutes of Earthbeat.

They also played at the Venus Festival at Berlin Tempodrom this month, which has already been on Dime so I won't be encoding my cassette, which is a bit chewed up anyway! (EDIT: Just saw it's being reseeded right now!)

I don't have an exact date for this one, but to satisfy the mods that it doesn't contain any officially released material, should they want to know, the only officially released live recordings from 1981 are one song from their final gig at Hammersmith Palais on 30th Nov 1981, and I'll be seeding that next with that one song removed.

Some funny comments from Ari as usual.  She really doesn't like the venue and she's not afraid of saying so!

The Slits - Keystone, Berkeley, USA - 23.11.1980 (MP3)

Very good Soundboard recording. Thanks to Egg_Crisis for sending me this recording to share here.

Recorded by Terry Hammer.
From his youtube: "Like all of my live recordings this was mixed direct to 2-Track Reel To Reel using headphones. Sitting in the club with the loud P.A. sound trying to drive the amp in my mixing board loud enough to hear what I was mixing. If you've ever been to a live concert, then, you know how loud it can be. Mixed on a cheap Peavey MkII 12 channel mixing board to Technics RS-1500 2-Track Reel To Reel. Mixed & Produced by: Terry Hammer ; (p)1980 : Terry Hammer.

Sourced from the 128kbps .m4a from youtube.

An unusual encore.  They start to play Grapevine again but Ari doesn't want to do it so they play "Instant Hit" instead, followed by the rarely performed "They're Fucking On Your Head" and then some improvisation with the Grapevine bassline.

Quite a nice intimate sounding, M2 from Toronto with a reggaefied Slits.
Apart from it being over saturated on the bass & the talking.
You can hear the taper walking into the start of the concert, so, I'm assuming 'In The Beginning' was played at the start & end of the gig?
Maybe they played two sets?

In October or November 1978 Budgie joined the group as drummer after Palmolive was unceremoniously thrown out of the group.  During November and December they toured with The Clash on their "Sort It Out" tour which ended with three nights at London's Lyceum, the final date being on 3rd January 1979.  At this point they were still the punk Slits.  Then there was a period of inactivity which was broken in April by an announcement that they'd signed to Island records.  In September 1979 they released a single ("Typical Girls" c/w "I Heard It Through The Grapevine") and an album ("Cut"), featuring Budgie, who had just left to join Siouxsie and the Banshees.  Bruce Smith joined the band on drums, and they did a short UK tour to promote the album.  People going to see them on this tour were to hear a very different Slits, and this is one of those gigs, Glasgow City Hall on 26th September 1979.

Originally posted as "January 1978".  This date is too early.
If we're to assume the venue is the Lyceum then it has to be one of the three shows they played there supporting The Clash on 28th December 1978, 29th December 1978 or 3rd January 1979.  Since the original wrong date said January let's assume they only got the year wrong and assign it the date of 3rd January 1979 although it could just as easily be from either of the other two dates.

The tape had no date.  I first posted this in 2007 (along with the Edinburgh show from the previous night) as "May/June 1978" which was my best guess and someone had a list of tour dates and the correct date was quickly found.
