The Cult - Scandinavium, Gothenburg, Sweden - 12.10.1984 (Flac)

Excellent sound. The version of God's Zoo is not the regular one but similar to the B-Side version on the 12''. The version of Hollow Man is still a work in progress. Thanks to the original uploader.

Venue: Check. Roman Amphitheatre in Fiesole, a small town located up in the
hills to the north-east of Florence, just 8 km from the city. The venue, built
in the first century BC, oozes atmosphere in a way that no indoor venue could
possibly emulate.

Weather. Check. There has been blazing sun all day and now a pleasant evening
breeze wafts through the amphitheatre. No sign of rain thus far.

Sound. Check. Those Romans knew a thing or two about acoustics; and the band
are mixed to perfection.

Performance. Well, that's where it all falls down. Apart from the substitution
of 'Black Sun' and 'Cantara' for 'Lamma Bada' and 'Now We Are Free' (a
definite improvement), the set-list remains essentially unchanged since the
first of the reunion concerts in August 2012.

The 2013 incarnation of Dead Can Dance is now a well-oiled machine, and
therein lies the problem. Machines perform repetitive work without emotion and
that is what I see before me on stage.

The band members are robotic in their consistency, the performance almost
automated in its flow. The overall sensation is one of a band merely going
through the motions, churning out a carbon-copy performance night after night.

Whilst the performance may lack emotion, the sound in the venue tonight is
spot on and both Lisa and Brendan are in fine voice. The alchemy that would
once occur on stage when these two got together, however, has been lost. Once
much more than the sum of their parts, the most we can now hope for is that
they break even.

What remains when the magic has flown is a well-rehearsed, mechanical delivery
of the songs, the next one being struck up before the applause from the
previous one has even started to abate.

I sit there for an hour and forty-four minutes and feel absolutely nothing,
other than a dull pain in my arse bone from sitting on a well-worn stone step.
The thin vinyl pad on top offers little solace.

Failing to be roused by what I am witnessing, I find myself bored; quite
literally bored; something I did not think was possible at a Dead Can Dance

The set is fifteen minutes shorter than it typically was in 2012 and its
climax comes as something of a merciful release for this listener. At least
I'm going to make the last number 7 bus back to Florence.

The recording itself is excellent, ironically one of the best I have ever
produced of the band. It easily trumps the rather mediocre hotchpotch 'In
Concert' album that recently appeared.

Even though I was seated in the centre of the front row (mine was literally
the first ticket to be sold the day they went on sale), which is normally not
ideal for recording, the PA was situated at ground level and at sufficient
distance to give me a direct line to it with my microphones. With most of the
audience seated behind me, my location could hardly have been better for
recording in this venue.

If you've been to fewer gigs on the 2012/2013 'Anastasis' tour than I have and
have not yet been pummelled to a gelatinous pulp by the set-list, you are in
for a treat. The sound quality of the recoding is outstanding and the new live
arrangement of 'Cantara', a song not heard live since 1996, is featured here.

The other gigs on this tour for which I have purchased tickets, booked
accommodation and bought flights and train tickets now seem a daunting
prospect. What's that they say about a fool and his money?

Still, my four day jaunt to Florence has been very enjoyable, with the concert
that formed the basis for the trip as its ironic low point.

I had hoped that the seven months between the band's last European gig in
Dublin in 2012 and their first that I would attend in 2013 would be long
enough for some of my lost enthusiasm for their live show to return. I had
also hoped for, but considered unlikely, a revision in the set-list.

Alas, Dublin seems like just last week and tonight's performance feels as if
it has been cloned from it. The substitution of two songs, the omission of
'Rising Of The Moon', and the absolutely magical setting do little to assuage
that feeling.

This is the first video release by Depeche Mode, never released on DVD. Featuring almost an entire concert from their 1984 Some Great Reward Tour, in Alsterdorfer Sporthalle, Hamburg (Germany) on 14 December 1984. Two songs performed during this concert are missing, "Puppets" and "Ice Machine", both written by ex member Vince Clarke.

World Domination Entreprises - Tegen Tonen Festival, Paradiso, Amsterdam, The Netherlands - 29.05.1987 (Flac)

World Domination Enterprises were a British independent rock band who were active in the 1980s. The band mixed elements of indie rock, industrial music, and dub.

Their sound was defined by their atonal guitar. They were best known for their cover version of LL Cool J's "I Can't Live Without My Radio", and early single "Asbestos Lead Asbestos", which was first performed by singer/guitarist Keith Dobson's defunct band The 012.

The band was linked with the Mutoid Waste Company, and played at many of their events, as well as CND benefits.
Much of the back catalogue is now deleted, though "Asbestos Lead Asbestos" can still be found on the Mute Records 2003 sampler Post Punk Vol. 1

Keith Dobson is also known as Kifkif Le Batteur, who played in English Psychedelic/progressive/space rock band "Here and Now" and, togeteher with Daevid Allen and Gilly Smyth in "Planet Gong"

Their page tells us:

Consisting of three members: Founder Keith Dobson on guitar and vocals; Steve Jammo Jameson on bass and Digger Metters on drums, World Dom came into being on Guy Fawkes Day 1984, and played their last show in May 1990.

Grown up on the streets of Ladbroke Grove in West London. A manifestation of the hard, crazy and colourful life of the UK's squatlands in Thatcher's heyday.

WDE released only two albums, "Let's Play Domination" in January 1988 and "Love from Lead City" (late 1988). "Let's Play Domination" sustained a place in the top three of the UK Indie Charts and the band were featured on the covers of Melody Maker and NME.
WDE preferred the short sharp napalm attack of the vinyl single and released five of these, one in each of the last five years of the 1980's. "Asbestos Lead Asbestos" (1985); "Catalogue Clothes" (1986); "Hotsy Girl" (1987); "I Can't Live Without My Radio" (1988); and "The Company News" (1989).

Swans - Bonnaroo Festival, Tennessee, USA - 15.06.2013 (Flac)

Taken from the webstream, so it's lossy sourced. Very Good sound. Thanks to DrG for capturing and sharing it here.

~ recorded by DrG from *lossy* digital USTREAM live broadcast ~
~ entitled by DrG as "Stop Texting In Yr Skin Tight Britches!" ~

Lineage: Buffered live Bonnaroo video webcast (the stream staggered to a halt during She Loves Us, but I was able to restart it from the beginning of the whole gig) > Audio capture via Audacity > Cut to separate tracks with WaveLab Lite and boosted 5dB > FLAC level 8

Also; first track trimmed with fade-in added to remove copyright song playing for the band's set-up and *loud* quick start. As trimmed, this will fit on a single CD. There is some *computer* background noise and stream-related click or two, but the loudness of the Swans overcomes.

In the forgotten and ancient honor of actually entitling bootlegs, I'd like to give this recording a name. In the second half of Oxygen, Gira recites; "Stop texting! Stop texting!"

So I rather flippantly thought either "Stop Texting In Yr Skin Tight Britches", or "Bonnaroo In Skin Tight Britches"... the former has more punch IMO. It is also, from what I read, Swans first Bonnaroo Festival gig. The folder pic is from Bonnaroo and I found it with Google... credit is where credit is due.

It was considered a *lossy* recording by Dime due to the source, and banned within minutes of uploading. However, I did what I could to capture this broadcast simply to enjoy it, as I hope you will.

Feel good now.

Mão Morta - Primavera Sound Festival, Parque da Cidade, Porto, Portugal - 31.05.2013 (Flac)

OK, so this post is mainly focused to our Portuguese and Brasilian readers, but even so I advise you to check it out.

Mão Morta are Portugal's living legends on the alternative scene, they've been around since the mid 80's. Originally influenced by The Birthday Party and Swans, they evolved through the years without any kind of compromise, creating their own sound, wich nowadays is imediately recognisable by any portuguese.

The lyrics are very important to create the ambient, so not knowing portuguese may be an handicap, even so, this concert is a kind of best of, since the band isn't promoting any album at the moment, therefore an ideal introduction. The lenghty interview in the begining is in portuguese

The Smiths - Not Like Any Other Love - Documentary (DVD)

Uploaded to MWP by Other 13th May 2013.

It's 30 years since Manchester four-piece The Smiths changed the face of British pop with their
debut single Hand In Glove. In this half-hour Culture Show special, fellow Mancunian and lifelong
fan Tim Samuels sets out to find out why The Smiths have such a special place in the hearts of a generation of Brits.

The Smiths were only around for five years in the mid-eighties, but to this day the sentiment their
music evokes is strong. Samuels pays visits to a variety of dedicated fans including fashion designer Wayne Hemingway, poet Simon Armitage, Labour MP Kerry McCarthy and Oasis songwriter Noel Gallagher to analyse the look,  the lyrics, the issues and the riffs that made The Smiths Britain's first, and arguably best ever, indie rock band.

Peter Murphy - Coliseu, Lisboa, Portugal - 30.05.2013 (Flac)

My master, hope you like it.

Taper: circle
Gear: Sony MZ-RH10 HiMD + Sony ECM-717 Mic
Lineage: MD -> M-Audio Quattro -> Audacity (normalize, tracksplitting and fades) -> TLH -> Flac (level 8)

It seems that the european version of th Mr Moonlight tour isn't stricly Bauhaus songs, Peter sneaked a couple of his solo records songs into the setlist along with some covers. Actually Subway and the Joy Division cover can be pointed  as the highlights of the night along with She's In Parties, with it's long dub finale.

The gig was quite full, I tried to get a nice place to record while still being able to enjoy the concert, unfortunately when the concert started a lot of people came from the bars and I wasn't able to move. Why did I had to move away? Well, the place was good and the sound of the recording is very good, better than the sound on the venue, but...

I ended up next to some annoying persons that talked a lot during the concert, not one but many, they talked behind me, in front of me, to the left and to right. If you understand portuguese and listen carefully you will notice at some point a guy talking about his debts to the social security... During a song... Taper's worst nightmare or how the crisis affects recordings...

Why do people pay the ticket if they don't really want to be there and act like if they were on the bar?

So, if you want a clean recording, this isn't for you. A pity because there's some really nice moments and otherwise the recording sounds very good.
