Never Mind the Baubles: Xmas '77 with the Sex Pistols [DVD/PAL/2013]

Credts to dm999 for sharing and to S+©kmªÑ for the links.

HDD recorder > DVD-RW > TMPGenc Authoring Works 4 > DVD.

No re-encoding, no menu, chapter points every 5 minutes. MPEG-2 Video, 720x576, 25 fps, 16:9, PAL.

Quote:
Looking back to Christmas 1977 with an irreverent portrait of the times,
featuring unseen footage of the Sex Pistols.

Never mind the baubles, director Julien Temple presents a unique insight
into the tradition and transgression of Christmas. Featuring interviews
and 70s archive, framing the Sex Pistols' last UK concert with Sid Vicious,
for the children of striking firemen in Huddersfield on Christmas Day 1977.

Bloody enjoyed this last night, hope you do too. Cheers, DM.

All My Faith Lost... (Free Downloads)

Three free albuns from this band, on their website and Bandcamp.

"Rain Has Fallen All The Day" was originally a collection of the first tracks recorded for the album that became "As You're Vanishing In Silence".
All the songs of the album (originally called Chamber Music)  were inspired by James Joyce's Chamber Music. Unfortunately, after recording all the album, we realized that James Joyce's works were not on public domain. This forced us to write new lyrics and record
new vocals parts on all tracks.

For all these years we had "chamber music" in our hands without the possibility to release it.

Now that we entered 2012 and James Joyce's works are on public domain, we can eventually let you hear how the original versions
of "As You're Vanishing In Silence" songs were.

We start with this demo that was only given to a couple of friends. Federico designed the new artwork for the digital version.

Still White Air is a "Best of" compilation released exclusively for the band's 2011 China tour.

RE-Upload: Love And Rockets - Metro, Chicago, USA - 08.12.1985 (Flac)

Continuing the L&R dedicated week. This time one concert from 1985. Thanks to judgesmails for sharing it on DIME.

Sound quality: A-

audience recording > cassette received in trade > recorded to hard drive > fades added and tracks
separated using Cool Edit > burned to CD > extracted from CD using iTunes > FLAC > you!

Original Notes:

Anyway, this is the real jewel of the 1985 gigs / recordings.  Not only is it the best sounding of the
1985 recordings (at least as far as I'm aware), but it's one of the few that includes the almost-never-
performed Love & Rockets version of Tones on Tail's "Go!".  If you have even the most passing interestin Love & Rockets or Tones on Tail (or Bauhaus or any of the other "Bauhuas family" projects) this isa recording that you should have in your collection.  Thanks go out to the anonymous taper - they dida nearly-perfect job, from intro. tape all the way to the end.  Enjoy!

Setlist:

1. "Swing Intro." (certainly not the correct title, just my name for the intro. tape)
2. Inside the Outside
3. If There's a Heaven Above
4. All in My Mind
5. A Private Future
6. Dog End of a Day Gone By
7. Love Me
8. Seventh Dream of Teenage Heaven
9. Haunted When the Minutes Drag
10. Yin and Yang (the Flowerpot Man)
11. Lucifer Sam
12. Go! (Tones on Tail cover - rare!)
13. Ball of Confusion

The Exploited - Estudio, Showlivre, AO VIVO, Brazil - 04.12.2013 [DVD/ISO/PAL]

Thanks to Bandit999 for sharing and to S+©kmªÑ for the links.

The Exploited - Estudio, Showlivre, AO VIVO, Brazil (4th December 2013)

Alright here's a great live performance by The Exploited on Brazilian TV in 2013.
This was shown live on the AO VIVO site in HD. I encoded it to DVD and then cut
out the interview from the middle and put it at the end so you can play the music
with no interruption. The quality is excellent with the Exploited giving a great
performance... To fill up the DVD i used some other HD web rips that i had with
live tracks and interviews, the quality varies but all the clips are good...

(Wattie dedicates the track "Punks Not Dead" to an pld guitarist "Mikey" for those that don't know,
Mikey Jacobs was lead singer of Edinburgh's the "Gin Goblins" and he commited suicide in November,
he was a good friend and will be missed, nice of Wattie to dedicate Punks Not Dead to him....)
Another excellent addition to everyones ever growing Punk Rock DVD library...

Fully authored and ready to burn as usual enjoy, your friend Bandit999

Support to Dead Can Dance.

Received in trade back in the day. I believe this to be a low generation copy, it was traded with a well connectedDCD trader who would almost certainly have only traded either Masters or 1st Generation recordings but as I haveno evidence to support these claims I'll leave it as an unknown generation (X)

Recording is clean and well balanced and considering it's age it stands up well.

Uncirculated TB Aud Master (2013)

Lineage: Aiwa HS-F1 (External Stereo Mics) > TDK ADX-C90 Tape (AD Inlay) > Yamaha KX-393 Cassette deck > QED Profile RCA to 3.5mm cable >
Edirol R-09 > Wav (16Bit/48Khz Downsample To 16/44.1) > Adobe Audition 3.1 (Edit start/finish, balance & normalise -1db) > TLH (wav to Flac (level 8)) >
Flac file > CD Wave 1.97 (for splitting tracks - flac 8) > Trader's Little Helper (create md5 / Torrent)

I have edited start/finishes, normalised (-1db) and balanced (Amp statistics - average RMS power) each Wav in Adobe Audition, no other process, straight conversion.

THIS IS NOT THE OFFICIALLY RELEASED THE RITZ 1984 RECORDING (Different Venue & Date!)

Setlist (List on tape inlay from setlist sheet at the gig):

1. Intro tape
2. Shockwerk
3. Kick to kill
4. Fall from light
5. Compulsion
6. Efficiency
7. Inheritance
8. Spring into action

No Dolby 'C' was used (Ignore cassette inlay pic!)

I seem to remember walking around NYC for weeks on end....anyway...I stood centrally with no one around me and it made an excellent recording (IMHO) for the period & equipment I used.

An excellent performance from TD, full of massed energy & power, add some bass & turn the volume up!

Sounds akin to early Last Few Days (Inheritance) in sections & thats fine by me.

"The band toured America for the first time in July 1984, travelling east coast to west coast and back again. At Irving Plaza in New York City on June 30, as at The Ritz on July 19, the stage was cluttered with relics. Spring coils, butane jugs, overturned barrels, waste cans, a car door, iron sheets, long shiny aluminum tubes, industrial cable reels, canvas screens, tape machines, and one huge rusted fuel bin, smoke rising from it as it was pounded upon by angry mallets.
A thick black air compressor read, "WARNING - this machine is automatically controlled. It may start at any time." A perfect description of Test Department.
No one understood how the Irving Plaza show could have been squeezed into the Kool Jazz Festival, in a classic piece of juxtaposition; the opening blues band, feeling the heat, checked out early. During soundchecks, the small room rang with grinding and grating. It was revealed that all instruments were found on hunts through Cropsey Street in Brooklyn, though one dark barrel read, "57 St. Marks." And down in Soho, an unknown fan scrawled upon a lunch wagon, "Test Dept: The Fear Tool - Use It." Everything was ready to go. The sound was perfect, better than at The Ritz, where a microphone or two failed to function.
Diminutive of stature, the men of Test Department erupt in unison choruses of controlled destruction. Reserved offstage, they explode, once on, in piercing anger and release.
The lights dimmed. I was swept up in gorgeous colors of torment. For too-brief periods I detach from myself and become sublime in the waves of violence.
Then, the feeling of my own futility, for I cannot join their ravishing ecstasy. They too felt somewhat isolated in their glorious frenzy, admitting later that they wished the audience could have joined in, in true ritual fashion. I explained to Angus (the man with the trumpet and the close-cropped blonde hair) that all I wanted to do was to bask forever in that feeling of danger, and even to rush the stage to explode in a brilliant fireball. Rejoined Angus, "You should have."
No insult was ever intended in that invitation."  http://www.myspace.com/testdepartment/blog

It's a lush cover of the theme from the 1985 David Bowie film, Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (written by David Sylvian / Ryuichi Sakamoto). A haunting, neo-classical track in the vein of the REMNANTS OF A DEEPER PURITY album.

Sam Rosenthal & Vidna Obmana - Terrace Of Memories

For a limited time, you can have this album for as little or as much as you want to contribute. It could be zero, it could be a buck. or five. Whatever you chip in is appreciated. Happy Holidays 2013, here's to a great new year.

An ambient instrumental release from black tape for a blue girl’s Sam Rosenthal in collaboration with vidnaObmana.

As far as I can recall, I began working on this collaboration with vidna after the recording of A chaos of desire. Dirk sent me cassette tapes of music, and I worked on my 8-track, I believe "Of silent crossings" and was very pleased with the result. But then got distracted by other projects, and the tapes were pushed to the back-burner and the album wasn't concluded until 1992. Quite honestly, I only have the vaguest memory of working on it in The Lush Garden studio in Los Angeles. I remember that even a few weeks after I finished a piece, it was hard for me to tell what parts I played and what parts were vidna. Aside from the low cello sound on my eMax, and the very slight vocals on the one track, who played what is a blur. That's cool. It's a great ambient blend.

I asked Vidna for his recollections on the album... "Back in the days, pre-internet, we traded a lot of tapes by mail. Projects and collaborations took much longer to complete due to the longer waiting times, waiting for the postal system to do their work. When I started to correspond with Sam in the mid 80s (I don't know really who contacted who), I was very into the albums by his Black Tape For A Blue Girl band. The eerie atmospheres and ambience which surrounding the songs were really mesmerizing and I could hear a blend of Sam's soundstructures with my ambience. So I sent him sources on tape. But with every collaboration release back then, time moved by before actually something was completed, again due to the slower way of communicating. Meaning that at the moment something came to you or vice-versa, it happened quite often you were already in a different state of mind. When Sam sent the first song, I wasn't in tune anymore despite Sam's brilliant interaction and additional performances. Nevertheless we completed the album and decided to release it as a Terrace Of Memories project, rather than a Sam Rosenthal & vidnaObmana album, most likely due to my doubts for the album back then. But with every strong album, my feelings towards this album changed over time and over the course of the next five years I learned to love this album again and it became and still is one of my favorite collaborations I ever done. And believe me I did plenty. Terrace of Memories is a real Sam Rosenthal & vidnaObmana collaboration and I truly wonder why we never did a follow-up. Enjoy."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“More than ever before, Sam lets his emotions run away on a tide of ambient turbulence. Five drifting movements ride the intake of senses, breathing the air of life and surrounding beauty. As fullsome as the cycle of seasons, cascading visions of past and present contact loop and collide. A very deep personal intrusion into the mind & heart, represented by a dark, mysterious and sensual music. Cast adrift into the caring hands of this truly original and honest artist who not only lives within himself, but sheds his soul through others as well.”
Open air festivals don't give you the best recording conditions. Main stage, one of the main acts everybody wants to see and late at night when everybody is in an advanced stage of inebriation is even worse. Add a breeze from the atlantic, shurely appreciated on a July evening in Lisbon, but creating very different and varying sound conditions if you stand too far from the speakers - I didn't like the resulting recording, sound wavering with the intensity of the breeze, esp. the high frequencies of the drumset, but also the general volume, so I left it lying around.
Another reason was that I didn't like the show as much as I had expected, especially Iggy's performance - not that it wasn't a highly energetic, powerful performance,, not that I didn't like it regarding the music, but I kept thinking why does he not grow up, the fuck this, fuck that, fuck security, fuck all the fucking festival shit...fuck everything....we are not a fucking commercial band............it seemed a little puerile for a man his age.
But 2 years later I think why not, he invented Iggy Pop, so why not make a decent living performing Iggy Pop, and a good performance it is, the songs are still among the most powerful written in teh last 40 years, and the performance is not a stupid repetition of the same songs forever, but is musically quite interesting, goes beyong punk, esp. I liked the sax which gave the songendings sometimes a jazzy quality.
I spent a couple of evenings remastering the recording, lowered many isolated volume peaks, raised the overall levels by 2 dB, applied a compressor for the upper 4 dB 2:1, went over it again and adjusted the volume manually in intervalls of 5 - 30 seconds by 0,5 - 2 dB to eliminate the wavering volume, limeted close applause using a hard limeter manually - and the result sounds much better than the original recording, not waht I'd call good, but it's hard to get a good recording open air.........
