The Story of Hansa Studios 1976-1990 - Documentary (MP4)

Thanks to Steveboy for sharing on the BowieStation. Broadcast on Sky Arts Jan 2018

MP4 - Quality excellent.
Downloaded from a link given by Nmert on the Bowie Station Forum

1976-90. New. The story of the legendary Hansa studios in Berlin, which used to overlook the Wall and has hosted many well-known acts including David Bowie, Iggy Pop, Depeche Mod, Nick Cave and Brian Eno, to name but a few, great live version of Lust for Life with Tony Sales on Bass and Gaz Coombes I believe on vocals.

Iggy Pop - Civic Auditorium, Santa Monica, USA - 15.04.1977 (Flac)

Thanks to Stacheleber for sharing this recording on Dime.

Original Info File;

Rock Around The World Promo LP
Catalogue No: PROGRAM #143
Air Date: May - 07 - 1977
Interview + 6 live tracks from Santa Monica Civic Auditorium 15.04.1977

Digital transfer from Promotional LP (cover scans attached)

Rec. Info:
Promo LP -> transfer via Thorens TD 146 + Magix Music Cleaning Lab to harddisk -> Magix Music Cleaning Lab (remaster/edit) -> FLAC (44,1 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo) -> DIME
Rare US promotional-only vinyl Radio show released for broadcast the week of 1-7 May 1977. Features 'Iggy Pop Interview' & 'Iggy Pop with David Bowie - Live'.
The live tracks are all from Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, 15.04.1977 (6 songs) and are produced by David Bowie. These tracks have never been officially released.
It also contains 2 album songs "1970" by the Stooges and "Sister Midnight" which have been removed here as well as several record ads for other artists.
I removed most of the clicks and edited the tracks.

This is a great document from 1977 with Iggy talking about the music of the 70's in general and of course about himself and his relationship to his fans ("first comes the audience then the band and last myself"). Of course he talks also about his relationship to Bowie (while burping loudly). The live tracks are all in excellent sound and it is said that the bootleg LP "Stowaway DOA" contains the same these tracks as well.

track list, length 39:27 min. (total length of promo-LP 59:25 min.)

Iggy Pop - The Metro, Chicago, USA - 12.07.1988 (Flac)

It was Iggy's birthday a couple of days ago, so to celebrate it, here's an absolutely perfect recording. Thanks to the original uploader.

Original Info File:

pre-FM EX Stereo

Download > Audacity > CD Wave > TLH > FLAC

01 Instinct
02 Kill City
03 1969
04 Penetration
05 Power And Freedom
06 Shake Appeal
07 High On You
08 Five Foot One
09 The Passenger
10 Easy Rider
11 1970 (I Feel Alright)
12 Search and Destroy
13 Cold Metal
14 Squarehead
15 No Fun
16 I Wanna Be Your Dog

This is an EQ'd version of a pre-FM download, albeit with 1969 added in (it was missing from the download version) - I shared this back in 2011, thought it was time to share it again, here.

This latter version was clearer but had very excessive treble, with a little
apparent treble distortion. This noise does seem to stem from the original
recording, as I noticed it was there in the background on my tape version, but
buried under tape hiss (which isn't bad on my original seed, but it is there).

I have mixed this to reduce that treble noise so that now I find it an ideal
match between my original tape version - slightly hissy, but very gutsy - and
the clearer version - very clear, too much treble / treble noise.

I think this sounds very good now, as good as the KBFH (official) CD version of
the Boston Channel 1988 concert to my ears.

Enjoy.

Open air festivals don't give you the best recording conditions. Main stage, one of the main acts everybody wants to see and late at night when everybody is in an advanced stage of inebriation is even worse. Add a breeze from the atlantic, shurely appreciated on a July evening in Lisbon, but creating very different and varying sound conditions if you stand too far from the speakers - I didn't like the resulting recording, sound wavering with the intensity of the breeze, esp. the high frequencies of the drumset, but also the general volume, so I left it lying around.

Another reason was that I didn't like the show as much as I had expected, especially Iggy's performance - not that it wasn't a highly energetic, powerful performance,, not that I didn't like it regarding the music, but I kept thinking why does he not grow up, the fuck this, fuck that, fuck security, fuck all the fucking festival shit...fuck everything....we are not a fucking commercial band............it seemed a little puerile for a man his age.

But 2 years later I think why not, he invented Iggy Pop, so why not make a decent living performing Iggy Pop, and a good performance it is, the songs are still among the most powerful written in teh last 40 years, and the performance is not a stupid repetition of the same songs forever, but is musically quite interesting, goes beyong punk, esp. I liked the sax which gave the songendings sometimes a jazzy quality.

I spent a couple of evenings remastering the recording, lowered many isolated volume peaks, raised the overall levels by 2 dB, applied a compressor for the upper 4 dB 2:1, went over it again and adjusted the volume manually in intervalls of 5 - 30 seconds by 0,5 - 2 dB to eliminate the wavering volume, limeted close applause using a hard limeter manually - and the result sounds much better than the original recording, not waht I'd call good, but it's hard to get a good recording open air.........

6. Heart Is Saved Live from "Harald Schmidt Show" German TV broadcast 1996 (length 3:50 min.)

You might have most of the featured videos from other sources and maybe in better quality but the real highlight of this compilation is certainly I Won't Crap Out from German TV "Live Aus Dem Alabama".
Iggy is performing solo with his guitar and smashing out this song with real power in his voice.
I can't remember if the broadcast set was longer (which I doubt) but after this song Iggy is continuing
with Butt Town but the TV announcer is cutting the broadcast off.
