The Sisters of Mercy - Andrew Eldritch Interview - 30 Ton, TVP2, Poland - 10.05.2003 (Video)

A video interview shared here by Florian, our thank you to him. Unfortunately the reception of the broadcast from where it was ripped had some ghosts, so the image quality isn't great, but it's one of the best interview of Andrew. Spot his smile when we talks about Lemmy

La Costa Rasa - Duchess Of York, Leeds, UK - 09.09.1992 (DVD)

The debut of one of the best forgotten bands of the 90's here in DCR. They supported the Sisters sometimes in the 90's and their second album was released through Merciful Release. A HUGE Thank You to Egg_Crisis for sharing his master here with us.

They were supporting Lunachicks and the place was so packed that I couldn't get my usual spot standing on the back of the seats next to the mixing desk and ended up filming this sitting on the floor near the front, as loads of people were just sitting on the floor.  From that position it made the tiny little Duchess stage look higher than it was but allowed for some good closeups.  When you see what happens at the end you'll know why I'm glad I wasn't sitting a bit closer to the stage!
I'm not sure about the titles for tracks 1, 3 & 4. During the start of the 3rd track I got a shot of the setlist from the back.  I reversed the image and hopefully got the titles for tracks 3 & 4 correct.

*Dead Can Dance song
+Tim Buckley song

Performed by...
Brendan Perry - Vocals, Guitar
Astrid Williamson - Keyboards, Backing Vocals
Laurence O'Keefe - Bass
Dan Gresson - Drums
Peter Sheridan- Guitar, Keyboards, Tambourine
Robin Guthrie - Bass VI on +

The performance:
Brendan Perry's voice literally consumes all the air in the room, reverberates off the walls and resonates though your body. He never strains to find the notes, rather the vocals are conveyed effortlessly almost like a conversation, yet with commanding force. The instrumentation almost fades into the background serving as a metronome to his tone poems. Brendan begins appreciative and humbled by the audiences ethusiastic reception at Los Angeles' lesser known Art Deco historic monument "The El Rey" (featured prominently in "Night Of The Comet" and "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"). However, as the audience's respect and reverence begins to wane, so does Brendan's patience. As several drunken audience members shout DCD song titles (he did in fact play
five such songs) Brendan stops and admonishes the audience telling them that "This isn't Karaoke Night". In utter frustration and to drive the point home he decides to "auction off" "Spirit" as a final encore. Highlight of the show was Robin Guthrie appearing to perform This Mortal Coil's Tim Buckley cover, "A Song To The Siren", something Robin apparently skipped his dinner for in order to perform each night. Thank-you kind sir! In spite of the crappy audience, the performance was quite incredible and completely memorable. Of note: apparently Lisa Gerrard was in attendance but chose not to make an appearance.

The recording...
Audiences are much like family. In other words, "You don't get to choose them. Rather you go through life or a concert, tolerating their bad behavior, putting up with their shortcomings, all the while trying to still enjoy yourself while waiting to leave."  Wow that got dark all of a sudden! Anyway, this is one of those situations. Crazy "Yuh-Yuh" dude showed up uninvited and I had this hobbit to my right screaming his head of while rockin his intoxicated ass off! Good for you, dude. You're about two months early for The Stooges! Alas, this is the recording that could have been. With a more respectful, albiet quieter audience this would easily have been an EX/EX-. Because of the douchebags in attendance I'll stamp this a VG-. Unfortunately, not much could be done to control the howler monkey. On the plus side, most of the screaming is done between numbers.

Oh and if you enjoy the stylings of...
Dead Can Dance, Lisa Gerrard, Cocteau Twins, Robin Guthrie, David Sylvian, Peter Murphy, Bauhaus, Brian Eno, Iggy Pop and of course, Gordon Lightfoot.

Please support the artist by buying his latest album "Ark" on The End Records out now!

An Appeal: Feel free to post on Brendan's website or your personal blog. Please preserve these files in their original FLAC format. There are many tools available for those to convert to mp3 or AAC for personal use. A modicum of effort may be required to do so.

Enjoy,
