Press Gang Metropol - WGT, Felsenkeller, Leipzig, Germany - 25.05.2012 (Flac)

Photo: Chris

I was sent a a lot of WGT 2012 concerts by Chris to post here in the room, but was a little lazy on splitting and converting the files, Northern Nephilim flood of his recordings from WGt was just the right incentive for me to wake up from the numbness.

So this one completes the lot of concerts in the Felsenkeller on the 25th of May.

This band has three ex-members of the now defunct band Corpus Delicti, wich has gained a cult status in the last decade. The setlist is empty since I didn't had time to search, maybe someone can help?

A huge THANK YOU to Chris for all the recordings he sent me to post for you.

Red Lorry Yellow Lorry - WGT, Felsenkeller, Leipzig, Germany - 25.05.2012 (Flac)

And the last for today, again a HUGE thanks to NorthernNephilim for his generosity in sjaring all his recordings. There will be some more coming from him, I suspecyt :) Also, Chris another taper also sent me a lot of his WGT recordings to post here (I already posted Amorphis) so expect more WGT on the next months.

First day with concerts on Wave Gotik Treffen on the Felsenkeller.
Beautiful venue but lot of heat there so i did a break and went outside during Press Gang Metropol.

After the not so good Eden House set because of crappy sound, RLYL singer Chris Reed told
some "strange kind of words" to the sound guys and that helped and their set was a blast again.

Red Lorry Yellow Lorry started properly in 1982, led by Chris Reed (mastermind and front man), as a vehicle to express his own particular intense and angst-ridden vision.
Their music rapidly earned a reputation as mind blowing powerful guitar music, something not so many other bands were making in such an unashamed way.

The Eden House - WGT, Felsenkeller, Leipzig, Germany - 25.05.2012 (Flac)

The excellent Eden House (there should be more recordings of this band floating around) in a concert plagued by some technical issues with trhe sound. that affects also the recording, of course, even so it's nice to listen. Again Thanks to Northern Nephilim for this one.

First day with concerts on Wave Gotik Treffen on the Felsenkeller.
Beautiful venue but lot of heat there so i did a break and went outside during Press Gang Metropol.

One statement to the quality, this is my worst quality recording from WGT 2012.
The tecnical stuff cranked Tony's bass all the way up and maximized all the other instruments on it.
The wrong way, first track some distortion (which directly came from the stacks, not my mics), and
no drums at all, you can hear Simon Rippin shout "No Drums" during break and through the concert all
fine elements from the songs got lost. And they had only one female vocalist there ;(

There can be good sound in that venue, just check the Lorries ^^

In The Eden House, there is no one singer. Just one intention; to create a coalition of beauty in music,
vocals, talent and soul.

In this collaborative project the core members are Stephen Carey, formerly of Ireland’s This Burning Effigy, Tony Pettitt, formerly of the influential Fields of The Nephilim and Andy Jackson, engineer of Pink Floyd and David Gilmour. With each song various accomplished musicians have been involved, bringing in their own unique talents and trademark sounds to produce the atmospheric songs that has and will continue to evolve as the project moves forward.

Rhombus are one of the finest Goth Rock bands to emerge from the North of England in many years.

Mixing male and female vocals with swirling guitars, driving bass and electric violin, they combine some of the best elements of traditional 80s/90s UK Goth, with their own modern, upbeat approach.

In addition to their studio indulgences, Rhombus have cultivated an exceptional reputation for their live performance, winning over audiences and powering the party, whether it be in an intimate club venue or from a festival stage.

Ahráyep - WGT, Felsenkeller, Leipzig, Germany - 25.05.2012 (Flac)

And for today, a special report on the first day of the WGT 2012, courtesy of NorthernNephilim. A HUGE THANK YOU to him. Sound is excellent

First day with concerts on Wave Gotik Treffen on the Felsenkeller.
Beautiful venue but lot of heat there so i did a break and went outside during Press Gang Metropol.

There is only one Ahráyeph : that's us. The brainchild of self taught musician and producer Raf, thrown into existence kicking and screaming (mostly screaming, on an awful sounding demo with sophomoric song lyrics to boot) back in 1996 under the name Crucifire, then continued around the turn of the century under this new moniker. There can be only one.

2007 saw the Mk. I version of the band on stage, opening up for UK Goth Rock darlings N.F.D., receiving praises from Tony Pettitt himself (if you are here, you know who the man is and what his musical credentials are), as he was amazed it was their first ever concert as a band. They were brazen enough to play 'Blue Water' in his honour as we was onlooking.
2008 saw the release of debut album 'Marooned On Samsara', through the eager distribution channels of D-Monic Records.
2009 saw the first incarnation of the band unceremoniously sacked for lack of dedication and prevalence to skiing holidays in midsummer over playing festivals.
2010 showed promise and a slow return to form in the Flying V clad shape of new guitar player Xavi, joining quickly enough to do a one off gig at the first and probably only Spain Gothic Festival, as well as the late addition of keyboard player Ness in the very snowy depths of winter.
2011 was spent readying this new formation, as well as auditioning demos for the new record, to be released in 2012, and the ambition to unleash a bunch of videoclips onto the unsuspecting masses.

Not only will 2012 give rise to a new Ahráyeph record, it will also see the Mk.II version of the band assault various stages in various countries, but mostly Germany. And this is a band that is more ambitious than ever, the more adversity they encounter. To be continued, indefinitely...

The Cult - La Riviera, Madrid, Spain - 18.07.2012 (Flac)

Photos; jlchacal

Another hot night in Madrid, The Cult on top form beautifully captured by dtsom. A Huge Thank You to him for choosing to share his recording here in DCR first. Sound is excellent as usual on dtsom recordings :) Lots of new songs from the "Choice of Weapon" album wich blend perfectly with the classic stuff.  Spiritwalker is the highlight for me, great moment. The crowd is going wild specially on the older songs, so expect some interferences (personally I think this crowd noises serve to better capture the feeling of the moment).

David Bowie and the Story of Ziggy Stardust - Documentary (ProShot DVD)

Excellent documentary. I got some hiccups on the video while watching it on VLC, but it was OK on the DVD player. You'll have to change the format to 16:9 manually. thanks to the original uploader.

How David Bowie arrived at one of the most iconic creations in pop history.

Duration: 1 hour

The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars is
arguably the most important album in the mind-blowing career of David Bowie.
Released in 1972, it's the record that set the mercurial musician on course to
becoming one of the best-known pop stars on the planet. In just over a year,
Bowie's messianic Martian invaded the minds of the nation's youth with a killer
combination of extraterrestrial rock 'n' roll and outrageous sexuality,
all delivered in high-heeled boots, multi-coloured dresses and extravagant make-up.
In Bowie's own words, Ziggy was 'a cross between Nijinsky and Woolworths',
but this unlikely culture clash worked - Ziggy turned Bowie into stardust.

This documentary tells the story of how Bowie arrived at one of the most
iconic creations in the history of pop music. The songs, the hairstyles,
the fashion and the theatrical stage presentation that merged together to turn
David Bowie into the biggest craze since the Beatles. Ziggy's instant success
gave the impression that he was the perfectly-planned pop star. But,
as the film reveals, it had been a momentous struggle for David Bowie to hit
on just the right formula that would take him to the top.

Narrated by fan Jarvis Cocker, it reveals Bowie's mission to the stars
through the musicians and colleagues who helped him in his unwavering quest
for fame - a musical voyage that led Bowie to doubt his true identity,
eventually forcing the sudden demise of his alien alter ego, Ziggy.

Contributors include Trevor Bolder (bass player, Spiders from Mars),
Woody Woodmansey (drummer, Spider from Mars), Mike Garson (Spiders' keyboardist),
Suzi Ronson (Mick Ronson's widow, who gave Bowie that haircut),
Ken Scott (producer), Elton John (contemporary and fan),
Lindsay Kemp (Bowie's mime teacher),
Leee Black Childers (worked for Mainman, Bowie's production company),
Cherry Vanilla (Bowie's PA/press officer), George Underwood (Bowie's friend),
Mick Rock (Ziggy's official photographer), Steve Harley, Marc Almond, Holly Johnson,
Peter Hook, Jon Savage, Peter Doggett and Dylan Jones.
