The Band / Performance:

On the surface, it does seem rather strange that Peter Hook would choose to perform New Order's seminal debut "Movement" and iconic follow-up "Power Corruption And Lies" while the namesake band is still around to perform said songs themselves. If you dig a bit deeper you will find that there is no love lost between Peter and his former bandmates. After two very successful tours performing Joy Division's "Unknown Pleasures" and "Closer", Hooky returns to The States two years later to perform the
N.O. classics. Thanks to Ryan J for the tip on openers "Slaves Of Venus" actually being comprised of Peter Hook And The Light, themselves. S.O.V. was a nascent band name considered during the J.D. -> N.O. transition. A fact that seemed to be buried in my subconscious. Not to be caught off guard, I performed a battery swap after the opening set. Still, I wasn't quite prepared for Hooky & Co. to play for another 2 hours 15 minutes. The material was aptly performed by the men, who seem to get better on each go around. David Potts from Revenge/Monaco deftly handles the guitar duties here while Hooky's son Jack proves to be an excellent bass player in his own right. Peter's vocals are still somewhere in the middle of the mix and he does seem to play bass less frequently. No Moby or Perry this time around in L.A. to assist with the vocal duties. The band exited the stage after "Leave Me Alone" and returned for "Everything's Gone Green". They let the machines run for "The Beach", the dub classic of  "Blue Monday". The band decided not to return after closing with "Blue Monday". No "Love Will Tear Us Apart" on this night.

The Recording:

A pretty solid pull from the same relative position as my other two recordings posted here in '10 and '11. I believe my U.P. recording is still kicking around the tracker (http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=335602) if someone cares to seed it. "Closer" has long since fallen off so some kind hearted soul would have to reseed that one. My original torrents are archived on some external drive sitting on a shelf somewhere. There is some clapping and hollering but nothing that blows out my mics. Most were content to stand quietly transfixed, especially during the aptly titled "We All Stand". Overall, I'm pretty happy with the
recording and very happy that I was able to get the whole thing. I decided to include the opening set from S.O.V. as it was the same band. There's some serious dynamic range on "5 8 6" (about +20 dB). So crank that one up.

Of Note:

FAC 93: "Confusion", FAC 103: "Thieves Like Us" and FBN 22: "Murder" were not performed. It may seem like heresy to some, but I would have rather heard these dancehall classics over the Joy Division stuff this time around. I suppose I will have to wait and see if Peter will return to play "Low Life" at some point in time.

A must for fans of: Joy Division, New Order, Nine Inch Nails, Jane's Addiction, Porno For Pyros, The Cure, Moby, Siouxsie and The Banshees, Bauhaus, etc...
