DEAD CAN DANCE - ANASTASIS TOUR EUROPE 2012 VOLUME 1 [PAL-DVD]

Another burst of creativity by the DCR team... After geting such a good response from the Montreal DVD post, we decided to do some more. This decision was supported by the fact that, inexplicably, there's not many DCD2012 tour DVD circulating (only three that I know of, so far).

After countless hours watching and downloading DCD videos from YouTube, it was evident that some of clips that DCD fans were posting were too good to be only seen on a computer screen, and better than the circulating DVDs.

So, I asked І©kmªÑ to help me by authoring some DVDs. Being the cool guy that he is, of course he said yes, even if he's more into industrial and punk music. A HUGE THANK YOU!!!!

We made two of these compilations, using only selected HD videos, mainly 1080p but also a couple of 720p that were too good to throw away. You can check the thumbnails to make up your mind about the quality. We still have enough material to do at least three more, but will only do them if there's any real interest on your part. When selecting the videos I avoided on purpose using videos from the RAH concert because there's already two DVDs of that one, and also from the Warsaw concert because the polish fanbase is preparing a DVD, possibly multicam.

Of course these DVDs wouldn't exist if not for the filmers, who did all the hard work, filming, editing and then sharing them onYouTube, so all credit should be given them along with the respectful THANK YOU. All the filmers are indentified by their YT nickname, you can also leave your comments there and/or ask them for the original files or arrange a trade.

Lastly, I would like to dedicate this DVD to ianmacd, whose recordings and texts inspired me to conceive it.

Second DVD in the next few days, until then, enjoy it

Tones On Tail - 7th Street Entry, Minneapolis, Minnesota - 19.10.1984 (Flac)

PLEASE RELABEL THE DOWNLOADED FOLDER TO 19 OCTOBER 1984, SINCE IT'S WRONGLY DATED.

Someone noticed a few days ago that there were very few recordings of TOT on the blog and since this is L&R week, it makes sense to post something from TOT, after all two thirds of L&R are in this band.. I don't have much more recordings, but I still have some, so here's another one. Sounds quite good. Thanks to the original uploader.

Lineage: First generation from original master cassete (J. Free)
(levels balanced and slightly EQ'd) > CDR > Yahoo Jukebox >
FLAC > you!
Equipment used:  (per J. Free) Not really sure - a decent enough
stereo recording > Walkman and a clip-on stereo mic

Sound quality: A

Original Notes;

First and foremost: great thanks go to J. Free, who not only recorded this show but who also graciously sent me a this disc so that I could share it with the rest of you!  Visit his site at sonicarchives.com and myspace.com/sonicarchives.  Thanks J!

For those who downloaded the ToT San Francisco show that I seeded a few months ago, this is essentially the same set but with better sound quality.  Also, if I'm remembering correctly, this show has an added echo-ey outro that is absent from the San Fran show.

Here are a few added notes from J. Free:

For those who don't know, Seventh Street Entry is a tiny little venue annexed on the east end of the club known as First Avenue (no, it's not Prince's club); it actually started out as a liquor storage area for the
venue that First Avenue used to be - Sam's Danceteria.  It's located at the intersection of Seventh Street and First Avenue, in Minneapolis.

...okay, a little disclaimer - back in the day, I didn't realize just how many other tapers there were in my realm of musical interests. So... I used to take my master tapes and EQ them a bit, balance the
channels and levels, fade in, fade out, etc, to fit on cassettes that would be like my own personal live albums.

That means that this isn't THE orignal tape of the show, but a copy I made from the master (which no longer exists, I'm afraid).  Hopefully, I was conservative enough with my tweakings that the integrity of the
recording wasn't lost.  I still think it sounds like a pretty good document of the show, and possibly one of the best from that tour that I've heard, if I do say so myself!

Ironically, an old friend of mine who lived in Minneapolis was kind of the personal escort and chaffeur for Tones On Tail when they were in town for this show, and he is actually the first person that opened me
up to trading networks all over the world!

Love And Rockets - The Wiltern, Los Angeles, CA - 05.09.1988 (Flac)

Another L&R recording, sounds very good and a great setlist. Thanks to the original uploader

Source:    AUD > analog cass > Sound Forge > WAV > mkwACT > SHN > WAV (via TLH) > FLAC (level 8)
Quality: B+

Original Notes: I created this 2CD set from an audio cassette I purchased years ago. There are some drop outs between songs along with a few minor dropouts in the songs, but given the scarcity of L&R live
shows, this is a good one. For an audience recording it sounds pretty nice. Vocals up front.
Guitar and drums up front as well. Bass is a little low and distorted but totally listenable.

Love & Rockets - Roxy Theater, Hollywood, CA - 10.05.1999 (Flac)

As requested, the two "last" Love & Rockets shows. Thanks to judgesmails for sharing them on DIME.

Sound quality: A-

audience recording > 2nd generation cassette received in trade > recorded to hard drive > fades added and tracks
separated using Cool Edit > burned to CD > extracted from CD using iTunes > FLAC > you!

** confirmed as lossless using EAC **

Original Notes:

Love & Rockets had made a formal announcement that they would be disbanding after their two Hollywood shows at the end of the "Lift" tour, so the band and crowd were all well aware of the significance of these concerts.
In fact both shows were professionally recorded for an intended live album, but some dirtbag managed to steal the recordings of both performances after the end of the second show.  Luckily there was an audience recording made during both performances, and I was able to get 2nd generation cassette copies of each show shortly thereafter.

The setlist for both shows was the same as in San Francisco (May 6 - previously torrented).  That show has better sound quality, but these shows have reasonably good sound quality as well and both are worth having for their historical significance.  The crowd is noisy at times, but their enthusiasm is entirely appropriate and I can forgive all of their noise aside from the woman who keeps shouting "Daniel Ash, I love you, you have beautiful  eyes!"  That person is embarassing and annoying, but thankfully she only makes an appearance on the May 10 recording.

Of significance:
- Evidently the band got locked in their dressing room between the main set and encores, and it took 15 minutes to get them out.  David tells the story as they come back onstage, right before "Kundalini Express".
- Janes Addiction drummer and vocal L&R fan Stephen Perkins joins the band for 3 songs during the encores.

Setlist:

1. My Drug
2. RIP 20C
3. 20th Century Boy (T. Rex cover)
4. Holy Fool
5. Delicious Ocean
6. Deep Deep Down
7. Pink Flamingo
8. Party's Not Over
9. David's Spinal Tap story / Kundalini Express
10. Mirror People (slow / fast version)
11. Space Oddity intro. / Yin & Yang (the Flowerpot Man) **
12. 2000 Light Years From Home (Rolling Stones cover) **
13. Ball of Confusion **
14. No New Tale to Tell

** featuring Stephen Perkins from Janes Addiction on additional drums
